Great credit to the Windies for coming over, and yes, you could well be right being cooped up might have some affect on them. However they do look as if they have the makings of a reasonable good test team again. Let's hope so, I always enjoyed watching them play.

Test cricket for me is still the number one format of the game.
This, definitely.

Edit: and it all starts again next week!

viewers may have missed this snippet:

broad's 500th test victim was karl brathwaite. he was also anderson's 500th victim.

broad was the 7th to reach 500 and this was the first match with two bowlers in that had reached 500.

Ireland 172 all out. Decent response given they were 28/5 at one point. That's a strong England lineup though, they should get home at a canter, cue England batting collapse...

Pakistan well on top, batted well and now both England openers out for single figure scores.

I'm not Catholic but thank God for Pope, without his contribution we would be in a worse position than we are, which is not great.

Good bowling by Pakistan, but out of the top 4, we should be able to show more resistance than that.

Let's hope Buttler and Pope can stay put and build a good partnership.

Pakistan look a for more accomplished test team than England,

Fragile top order.. mystifying tactics employed by a clueless captain .. this team has a long way to go before seriously challenging for top spot in the world .. and why oh why does Root persist in putting himself in at slip .. he juggles or drops every chance that comes his way.. there must be a safer catcher that could be employed there.

Stats suggest otherwise, Root has 121 test match catches, now second behind Alastair Cook who is top with 175 catches.

These Pakistan quick bowlers are really good to watch, Buttler and Pope completely stymied so far this morning.

If you exclude Pope England's 5 full-time bowlers scored more runs than the 5 full-time batsmen. Poor show although Pakistan were very good.

Great day today, England looked down and out when Pakistan were bowling this morning, but a few runs from the tail and then a dogged England bowling performance has put them back in the frame, Stokes doing what Stokes does. Just love test cricket!

Absolute mccann levels of team selection for this test, so obviously a bowler heavy and a batsman light. Woakes and archer bowled 10 overs between them today, all the more baffling given stokes has now bowled 4 himself and root bowled first innings too. Buttler gots to go too, his keeping not up to scratch, cost us abou 110 runs in this match alone and his batting hasn't been good enough for a long time to justify his continued inclusion. Ed Smith staked his reputation on 2 left field choices in denly and Buttler, both have failed.
