You know what, it may well be. I wonder if it would have kept Torres fit.....

    Sunday 18th September 2011:

Liverpool today play Tottenham Hotspurs at White Heart Lane in their 5th game of the Premier League season (Tottenham's 4th).

Its a big day of games, which could possible see Liverpool climb to third with a win, and other results going their way.

    -

Liverpool's Glen Johnson has suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury and misses out.

Steven Gerrard is unlikely to be risked for this game and is instead expected to play against Brighton in the Carling Cup in midweek.

Tottenham's Rafael van der Vaart has a chance of retruning from injury, but William Gallas and Aaron Lennon are doubts.

Ledley King faces a late fitness test, but Michael Dawson is definitely out.

    -

The Scotland ace admits the skipper's comeback has given everybody in the squad a boost and put all the midfielders on their toes with increased competition for places.

"I'm looking forward to seeing Steven come back," Adam told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"He's a top player as everybody knows and every time someone mentions his name they smile because they know how good he is'.

    Monday 19th September 2011:

Liverpool today begin to work on recovering from their havy 4-0 defeat to Spurs at White Heart Lane yesterday.

Liverpool now sit 8th in the table, with a goaldifferent of -1. But 3 points (and 4 goals), could still get Liverpool back up into the top 4.

Charlie Adam and Martin Skrtel saw red cards.

    -

Liverpool will bid to secure their place in the fourth round of this season's Carling Cup at Brighton on Wednesday night without the services of Charlie Adam and Martin Skrtel.

Both players were dismissed during the defeat to Tottenham on Sunday and will now serve an automatic one match suspension.

(So no ban in the league?)

    -

In more lighter news, Jack Robinson has said advice from Jose Enrique is helping him to become a better footballer.

(Its great to see the older guys looking out for the younger guys).

    Tuesday 20th September 2011:

Sebastian Coates admits that the challenge of proving himself in a new country was key to his decision to come to Liverpool.

"The biggest attraction was the challenge: to come to an unfamiliar place - a huge club - and make a name for myself," Coates said in an exclusive interview in this week's LFC magazine.

"So far in my career, I have been very lucky; to play for Nacional, to play in the Copa Libertadores, to win the Copa America. There has been a lot of success in a short period of time. But I have achieved that in a place where I am most comfortable.

"Now, I am here, in a different country, in a different league, with different team-mates. The best players are successful wherever they go. I am determined to become an important player here at a historical stage of the club's future."

    -

Gerard Houllier is backing Kenny Dalglish to lead Liverpool back into the top four this season.

He said: "I think they'll finish in the top four. I believe in them.

"Don't forget Steven Gerrard is not playing and, when he comes back, he'll make a difference."

Meanwhile, Houllier has also revealed he is unlikely to return to management again.

Houllier said: "I've got to admit that, probably, I won't go back into management. I'm practically 85 per cent. I'm still getting there.

"Obviously, the profession that I used to have was not the best to keep in good health because of what I have."

    Thursday 22nd September 2011:

Last night Craig Bellamy scored his hist goal since returning to Liverpool. He scored after just 7 minutes in a game which Liverpool won by 2 goals to 1, with the other goal scored by Dirk Kuyt.

"It was a nice goal and I was pleased with it," Bellamy told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"I managed to link up with Luis Suarez who is such an impressive player and it was a good feeling.

Steven Gerrard watched Craig Bellamy fire a superb goal in the Carling Cup win at Brighton and then declared: "That's why we signed him."

    -

Steven Gerrard made his long awaited return from a 6 month injury spell, coming as a substitute 16 minutes from time.

Dalglish said: "It was fantastic for everyone connected to the club to see Steven back.

"But we will manage the situation as diligently, as we have done so far."

He added: "We need to be careful and we won't get carried away.

"We're more pleased for Steven than anything else. He's worked really hard and had a few disappointments along the way, so to get 20 minutes or so will give him a real lift.

"Steven coming back certainly makes our squad a whole lot stronger.

"We said we were happy with the business we had done in the summer and having Steven back is like getting a new signing.

    Monday 26th September 2011:

The Liverpool squad are all very happy to have Steven Gerrard back in action and are emphasising the importance of their captain.

    -

Martin Kelly had this to say about Gerrard and Saturdays win over Wolves:

"It was good to get back to winning ways (in the league) and I think we needed the three points," Kelly told Liverpoolfc.tv. "We had the fans behind us and the return of Stevie especially lifted the crowd. We're happy with the win."

He said: "We can build on this win. It was good to get a victory going into the derby next weekend. We needed it because it's going to be a really tough game there. We'll all have to work hard in training to make sure we're ready for next week."

The 21-year-old's appearance against Wolves was his second start in succession following a hamstring problem - and the defender believes he's back in peak condition.

Kelly said: "I'm feeling good. The medical staff have worked me a lot this week to keep me on top of the hamstring injury. It was about being sensible against Wolves, and I thought I did that.

"The medical staff have worked really hard with me and we've come through it together. I'm made up I've played the last two games and I'm feeling fitter than ever."

He added: "I'm really looking forward to playing in the derby, if I'm selected. I was on the bench last season and it was a tough game. They started well and put us under pressure.

"We'll be looking for the win, but it's a derby day and it's always difficult."

    -

Kenny Dalglish has asked people not to make comparisons between himself and Luis Suarez.

Dalglish responded: "I think everyone has their own identity and it undermines the boy if you compare him with anyone else.

"He is Luis Suarez. He is a fantastic player and it is not fair to compare him with others who have been here before.

"Does he benefit from working with me? I don't know - I don't speak espanol! I don't know where he gets his ideas from but he is full of them and he certainly knows how to play.

"The fans take to him because he is so genuine and 100 per cent committed. The crowd love players like that. He has his own ideas and he is full of them. He is just a fantastic player."

    -

Once Dalglish left the press room it was opposition manager Mick McCarthy's turn, and again reporters were keen to get his view of our Copa America winner.

"Suarez was awesome," he said. "He never does what you expect him to.

"You think he is going to pull the trigger, then he cuts it back. You think he is going to come short and he cuts in behind you.

"He is just a really good player. He is something else."

Liverpool have been granted another extension by Liverpool City Council as they continue to explore all options on the future of Anfield. The club were set to announce by the end of this month whether they intend to take up the 999-year lease that would allow them to build a new ground on nearby Stanley Park.

    Tuesday 27th September 2011:

Dirk Kuyt has spoken of his determination to regain a regular place in the Liverpool team.

Kuyt has found himself starting less games since the arrivals of Andy Carroll, Luis Suarez, Stewart Downing and Jordan Henderson.

"From childhood, I've always been disappointed when I'm not in the team because I'm desperate to be involved and make a good contribution," said Kuyt, whose Liverpool CV reads 67 goals in 247 games.

"But it also makes me very determined too. I need to continue to prove myself, train as hard as possible and, when I do play, make sure my performance is of a high standard."

    -

Steve Clarke believes Luis Suarez has a 'mental edge' that sets him apart from other good players.

"With any top player the mentality is always that bit stronger," the first-team coach told Liverpoolfc.tv. "That's what separates them.

"There are a lot of good players at this level and the really, really top ones have got that mental edge that drives them on all the time and produces the kind of performances that we've had from Luis so far."

    -

John Barnes believe Kenny Dalglish can lead Liverpool to glory.

    Wednesday 28th September 2011:

'Voronin made me Derby hero' is a headline I did not expect to see this morning... but I did!

It all goes back to the day when Dirk Kuyt scored 2 penalties to give Liverpool a 2-1 win over Everton.

Kuyt told the Official LFC Magazine: "In my second year as a Liverpool player, it was a really tough game and the breaks went our way. I remember Rafa read out his list of penalty takers before the game and I was second choice. Andriy Voronin was first on the list.

"When the referee gave the first penalty, Andriy came to me and asked whether I wanted it because he didn't feel too confident. I said: 'No problem...I'll take it.'

"I was so happy to score the first one and when the second one came around, I didn't hesitate. You know that if you miss it, you probably draw the game but it feels like a loss because it's in the last minute.

"To score the winner; it was one of the best feelings I've experienced in my Liverpool career."

(So that makes more sense, Voronin didn't actually do any thing).

    -

The family of Ronnie Moran have thanked Liverpool supporters for their cards and best wishes after the Anfield legend left hospital.

The former player and coach - who served the club for an incredible 46 years - fell ill earlier this month but is now on the mend.

Moran's family got in touch last night to say he has been overwhelmed by the response of Liverpool fans to his illness.

    Thursday 29th September 2011:

Just a quick update on injures today.

Dalglish has confirmed that Daniel Agger has resumed full training as he recovers from the rib injury he sustained against Tottenham two weeks ago.

He also confirmed that Glen Johnson is nearing his return to action following a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, journalists asked Dalglish whether the fact Saturday's game is a Merseyside derby at Goodison Park made it more tempting to hand Steven Gerrard a first start of the 2011-12 season.

He replied: "No. The game is not the important thing - Steven Gerrard is more important. As we've said before, we'll manage Steven as well as we possibly can."
