Sadly, that doesn't surprise me. He will have had a relegation clause in his contract which reduces his wages if relegated, but the downside of this is they must have also have a release fee as well. I suspect his agent will be touting him round Championship clubs as we speak.
Any player who has had a relegation clause activated will have their agents touting them around clubs hoping the new club will pay the release fee. I think Burke may generate a bit of interest.
This makes me think any speculation about what our first Xl will look like at this point, 6 weeks before next season, is pretty much a waste of time. Have a feeling we will lose a lot of players in the next few weeks. I keep hoping this very large Hull City cloud has a silver lining but I ain't seen it yet.
