Surely the human rights abuses in Hungary are highly relevant to you as an EU supporter? You begin to sound like an old British nationalist now!
The EU is the biggest proponent of socialism in the world. And that's been seen clearly over the last days, when there were huge, acrimonious fights between the profitable and frugal northern countries and the economic basket cases in the south, Greece, Spain, Italy and Portugal, the latter looking for huge financial bail outs.(Macron apparently accused the Dutch prime minister of acting like a British prime minister by protecting his nation's interests!) The solution they've found where by grants and loans all go through Brussels, propelling the EU towards becoming a federal state, does not look sustainable. It has to get through national parliaments, and if I was a citizen of the Netherlands or Denmark for instance, I'd feel like a sucker. We could be seeing the break up of the EU as we know it, over the next two or three years. Thank God we're out.
No more so than anywhere else though I was referring to the issue of corruption. We’re out the EU after all. Not our problem especially when we’ve got so much on our own doorstep.
On a macro level, I think socialism is at the heart of the EU. It takes from the richer countries, and gives to the poorer. (And then gives back to France by way of CAP and Germany by way of exports!). But it's also true, there is corruption between big Brussels politics and big business at a lower level. The question is, for how long will voters in the north be content to subsidise heavily countries in the south? The one thing that the Coronavirus established, is that in times of trouble, countries look to their national governments not to Brussels. And those, like Italy, that were in deep trouble, could expect no help from Brussels when they needed it

It’s not about socialism or nationalism in my view.....more about who profits from the organisation that is the EU. To me it seems those at the top of the EU (and the many hangers on) are making vast salaries and have massive pension pots, being paid for by the taxes of the people of Europe. Maybe I’m being simplistic and I will obviously be corrected by those with far more political knowledge like Bracknell, however I’m looking at it from my view which after the last few months has become apolitical.....they are all a bunch of ****s, as are most human beings.
I meant I get what you meant by the sentence so it doesn’t really matter but if there are “enormous net benefits” then by definition we’re getting good value for money. But as you asked for a one liner, I hope a US trade deal and gradual erosion of the NHS at least means the ambulances of the future are Cadillacs.
Sorry Brackers, I misunderstood your post....my apologies. I would still argue the fact that those ‘net benefits’ are not just beneficial to one side. Have you seen the Ambulances we are getting ? Hopefully I’ll be retired by then as pushing a 20 stone patient up a ramp ain’t gonna do my back any good.

Without wishing to sound like our resident conspiracy theorist, suffice to say that the politicians - Select Committee or not - are not privy to an awful lot of what those "behind the scenes" are actually doing. There has been significantly more happening to counter specific threats than will ever be made public I can't be more specific myself than that, but suffice to say the media and MPs aren't fully in the picture
Intriguing, but begs the question 'Why should you be privy to this information, but not the Select Committee?' Are you saying that there was a lot done 'behind the scenes' in relation to investigating Russian interference in the EU referendum?
Would he? What he would or wouldnt have done is totally irrelevant. What our PM does or who he takes money from is.
