your attitude seems to be: "if I say I am not interested in reading a story about a famous football player coming out as gay then less people may think I am gay"

You've dropped a bollock here, Pete, it's called "judging people by your own standards". You can't imagine that somebody else couldn't resist reading such tawdry news stories because you'd be all over that ****. Well, I'm afraid that there's millions of people who couldn't give two ****s about other people's sexual preferences regardless of their profession. Just because you'd be so keen to read every detail does not mean anybody else would. My apologies for having to break this to you after so many wasted years on this planet.

Another one who's aiming for the mendacity award because he thinks it will make out he is superior rather than just show himself up for being a liar.
You even throw in a bit about reading every detail in a desperate attempt to deflect from your lies.
Questioner: "Do you know which England international has just come out as gay?"
Liar: "I have no interest in that at all. I'm too busy feeding every child in Africa"
Honest person: "I don't know. Who is it?"
Liar: "How can you want to know about every detail? it's disgusting wanting to imagine all the things they do. Obviously, I am not gay. I'm not even very scared of women."
 
It's all well and good saying you aren't interested. That's fine and you are entitled to. But homophobia in football IS a problem. Otherwise there would be out gay players.

Look at the responses to twitter posts from clubs supporting Pride, there's countless offensive comments. That's not banter, that's abuse and can damage people going through a tough time.

Whilst attitudes have changed, I'm not surprised there isn't a player out yet and its a sad fact that there will be players who can't be with who they love publicly because they don't want the attention (positive and negative) that will come with it.

The Premier League is a worldwide brand, broadcast in countries where there is the death penalty for being gay. It can do good.

My husband and I love football, would I feel comfortable making contact at a match? I'm not so sure yet.

Please, if you're not interested in the gossip that's fine, but let's not pretend that there is nothing to see here. There is.

If a player came out as gay I think the club's fans would support him. Fans of opponents would abuse him. It's nothing to do with whether he's gay or not it's more to do with what side he is on.
Very few people are anti-gay. It's a significant minority though and I'm sure some can be violent. Players coming out would be good but it would be irritating for them to say the very least.
Many women footballers are openly gay. I don't think they get any abuse at all.

Agreed, I think he'd get a lot of support from his own club. That'd be great. I also think there'd be a lot of other fans from other clubs supportive too and wouldn't use it for abuse.

But I don't think that's what I'm saying really. I'm more saying that its a shame that players obviously feel there is a lack of a supportive environment to be themselves. That's a shame.

I dont know whether you saw my post about when I was training to be an accountant. A trainee was openly gay and people in their 20s and 30s werent bothered about it at all but managers in their 50s and 60s didnt like it. I think the hate is slowly dying out.

I agree, but no group should have to wait for intolerances to die out completely.
