What I find crazy and there are a couple of people on the wider forum who are prime example of some of the biggest xenophobes you’ll come across... who have foreign wives. Pompey knows who I mean :bandit:

Depends mate....I guess if their wives are blond haired Lithuanian stunners I can somehow get it......would be different if they’ve got a Mrs who comes from Nigeria though ;)

I know you weren’t being personal, no worries. I like to think of myself as pretty level headed but will stick to my views.....some may say opinionated but I can live with that.

I did laugh the other day when someone showed me something they had been sent....

Basically that people with mixed race kids can still be racist.....because slave owners also had sex with their slaves and had mixed race kids too..........it’s all getting a bit bizarre, in my opinion.

We’ve become such a binary ‘pick your side and stick with them regardless’ society in recent years that nuanced debate is more difficult than its ever been imo mate.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I knew absolutely nothing about Colston until last weekend, and I speak as someone who’s from Liverpool, a city who’s slave trade past lead to the creation of the International Slavery museum at the Albert Dock, a place I’ve visited a couple of times.

However, I do now, as I researched him and more importantly the history of both the statue itself and the local battle to see it removed, that been going on for the last 20-30 years. Plenty of locals did their utmost to have it rightly removed and were blocked at every turn, even the erection of a second plaque explaining his slave trade past was blocked - notably by a Tory councillor called Richard Eddy (google him).

So I completely understand why in the context of a BLM protest that particular statue attracted the focus of locals, who’d been failed by the local politicians and decided to take direct action.

The wider point about racism in our society is way more complex, have things improved in the last 40 years? Of course they have, is the issue now firmly a thing of the past? Absolutely not.

You’ve not had the Peter Saxton experience. When there was a perm board politics thread he was ...... something... he also provided this entire forum with the most amazing moment when he accidentally posted something that wasn’t meant for the forum... he was meaning to respond to a dominatrix on Twitter <laugh>

Orchidgate, the greatest moment on any forum, in the world, ever.

Just a perfect example of the f*cking halfwit lefties who now think they have carte-blanche to deface whatever they want...

Someone's defaced Robert the Bruce statue with ’racist king’. <doh>
And I believe the statue of the Mel Gibson Scottish fella also got a paint job
Sorry I see you posted earlier.

Eh ? Where you getting this info from Ellers......I mean I am genuinely interested but can’t find any note of that statue being vandalised recently.......have you got a link ??

to excuse Johnson’s constant lies the usual response I see and has been used on here is well all politicians lie <doh> One of the unbelievable things of recent years was the Tory social media campaign think it was 88% of all posts were at best misleading at worst flat out incorrect. In the same independent survey 0% of labours posts were found to be misleading or incorrect... yet do they care they are constantly being lied to.... nope.
That's the simplicity of some people I'm afraid. They accept being lied to as it suits their agenda or beliefs. Some even make excuses for it which is quite unbelievable really. This is part of the problem with society. Lies, greed, corruption has become widely accepted.

Ah ok, apology accepted. That is the graffiti that was put, rather bizarrely on Robert The Bruce’s statue.......two completely different things. Easy mistake to make but please be careful next time.
However it does emphasise Wills point about rumours, stories and how mistakes and half truths become absolute certainty via social media.

You’ve not seen his ‘secret’ Twitter account have you? It’s quite something.

For a 67 year old, 22 stone, married bloke, it has to be seen to be believed. He’s one sick old **** him.

Anyone that thinks that racism in this country is a thing of the past should have been in the pub (yes!) with me this afternoon. I felt like I was the copper out of Life on Mars who'd gone back to 1973. All brought back into the open by the BLM protests. It was only sleeping.
