We’ve always had it though. It’s one of the Tories’ biggest cons to play up to their supporters’ victim mentality.

I’m disgusted any Labour MP is going with it.

We didn't have it with EU freedom of movement laws. It's true that Blair could have exercised more control over Eastern Europe and chose not to, but generally rights to control who came in from the rest of the EU were highly restricted.

There must and will be a full enquiry into how the government handled it, Bob. They haven't got everything right, but the NHS was never overwhelmed which was critical. Care homes must be looked at, but it's interesting to note that most of the other Western nations have had the same problem over care homes
What do you think they haven't got right. Did all the other countries lie to their subjects regarding care homes also?

We put a protective ring around care homes early doors and locked them down before the official lockdown........is that the truth or a blatant lie?

Other national governments were blindsided too. There's no point me arguing with you about what is a lie and what is a statement of intent that proved to be groundless. But the good news for you is that if you are right, and the government failed and lied, then it will probably fall like Blair when he failed and lied, and then you'll have a Labour government

I agree though, this is a worldwide pandemic, unprecedented etc. Many countries have struggled to contain it. Some have done really well. We have been one of the worst. That's a fact unfortunately.

We did have the right to kick out anyone who didn’t fulfil specific criteria that made them useful, for want of a better word. We just chose to ignore that and play the victim. It worked.

Would you not class that as a lie then? Bizarre. A statement which even to this day is continuously spewed out despite facts proving it totally incorrect. You have a strange way of distinguishing the truth Goldy, one that I cant quite fathom. QPR won the league last year, facts prove they didnt but I continue to stress they did. I'm either deluded or just a liar.

We threw the lions into the ring with the Christian but after a while we threw him a potato peeler so really it’s his fault if he gets mauled to death. Common sense, alert etc.

No, it was much more restrictive than that. You could occasionally kick someone out for criminality. If an employer wanted to bring in cheap European labour to undercut the local market, they could do it. We're not talking here about fruit pickers etc. They will still come on a seasonal basis. It's done on need, which is right.

Yes I have read it. I read something similar the other day. Care homes have been an issue worldwide. Some countries haven't lied about trying to deal with it though.

An official enquiry when it happens will look at whether the government gave false assurances - they may have done - and whether this caused more deaths in care homes - that's not clear at the moment. Care homes were incredibly vulnerable, here and across Europe

It's perfectly clear that they lied in parliment and on national tv mate. Their own government website clarified that ffs. Can you not admit that

Downing Street have denied this allegation. And have claimed Starmer is quoting assurances out of context. Time will tell
Sadly the politics thread has turned into the Coronavirus MII (we hate the government and they lied... no proof but who cares) thread. I give up! The same posters bringing up the same rubbish. Everything is just getting turned into "the government lied" blah blah. The Coronavirus thread is just as bad now. All those informative posts are dwarfed by utter rubbish. Anyway back to work.
