That is an idea...wouldn't solve the problem of who qualifies for Europe and relegation.

What the **** has happened to this thread? Shame, was a useful and interesting forum.

Ignoring the ongoing bitch fest, the WHO is now bigging up............Sweden as the new normal. Of course Sweden is not a relevant model for elsewhere because the relationship between citizens and their government is very different to say......China, which of course the WHO is also a big fan of. Sweden has relied on trust and its citizens acting like grown ups in their own interest and in the interest of their community, China put its population under house arrest. The WHO really does fiddle about on what it does or doesn’t support.

Sweden and other countries like Australia, Germany and the US (not I think the UK) have demanded an inquiry into the origins of the pandemic. China has refused to participate.

Though I desperately want the Swedish approach to work it’s only fair to point out that the jury is out at this stage.

We aren’t a bright enough society to work it out on our own. I doubt Swedes have been flocking to their equivalent of Snowdon as we did when we had a bit of flexibility.

This has become the political thread, a bit like watching the same teams on a different ground...

    OK:

This is an extremely interesting and informative thread. It is good to debate the manydifferent things that are going on in our "new world", but please, please, please can we have a little decorum and politness and respect for everyone on this thread. Disagreements are okay, threatening behaviour is not

I'm looking forward to the road map and menu of options next week regarding lockdown restrictions. This in all fairness to the government is very very tricky indeed. If they are following the science, Chris Witty just gave a lecture on a 2nd wave being much worse than the first. It could be a very limited menu! I believe that the virus is well and truly in the UK for a long time, mainly due to, what I describe as a 'half hearted lockdown' which was very delayed in response. If we ease restrictions and this spikes again then the government just gets more grief. If we dont ease them then the government gets more grief. This is where I feel they are stuck between a rock and a hard place, but I believe a lot of this has been their own doing!

I've just been looking at some polling on the Coronavirus pandemic, and it's not good news for the government. 66% of respondents think that the government was too late in its imposition of lockdown (up from 57%), whilst the number saying that they were 'very concerned' about the threat that the virus poses to the country has fallen from 63% to 49%. These results seem somewhat contradictory, but, as concern diminishes, pressure will grow to end the restrictions. So the government could get it in both directions - too slow to impose lockdown and too slow to end it.
