I agree with you Thomsen, and although i've been supporting city for only 12 years i rate Pearson as one of the best managers i've seen at city. His style of football may not be the most entertaining, but we've got results from it which has now taken us to 7th in the league which ok doesn't mean a great deal in September but if we can be where we are now at Christmas then we can push on in the 2nd half of the season. We have the foundations of a good team and with players such as Hobbs, Chester and Cairney improving all the time. We may not go up this year, but the way things are currently panning put we could be in with a shout. If we win on Tuesday then we'll have already acquired our points total we had by mid November last year, for me that is a sign of good progress.
You're talking complete bollocks. I've been supporting City the same amount of time as you, and in that time we've seen two of the greatest managers City have had in Taylor and Brown, to say Pearson is one of the best managers you've seen is just plain bullshit.
So you remember Taylor, but you don't remember a mid-table finish in his first season - nor sitting on one goal leads? I won't argue with Taylor being considered one of City's greatest managers - but it unfair to compare a work in progress with a completed job of work. Pearson has steadied the ship - kept us in touch with the play offs for most of last season, only to fall short once the squad was completely ravaged with injuries whilst also breaking an away record that neither Taylor or Brown even got close to challenging. Is it a little early to say Pearson's one of the best? - probably. But is it any more bullshit than your reticence to give any credit for any positives whatsoever?
No he's not talking complete bollocks, you are.. "one of the best" is different from saying "the best". I know Taylor got results and successive promotions but I prefer Pearson right now, I prefer the type of players he's bringing in & I can see what he's trying to do. It can't be done overnight, not like you and your username changes..
Great post this, Taylor was more negative in his approach than Pearson. TWF arguments are like this most of the time, just a lot of wind, and he seems to be getting more aggressive with his language too. Why doesn't he just admit we have a good manager, seems very childish to me, like when I was kid and hated people for no reason. Grow up son!
Ok Percy, why don't you tell us exactly what NP's positive and negative attributes are by considering: defence - players, tactics, signings midfield - players, tactics, signings forwards - players, tactics, signings Also consider progress since taking over, the players he inherited / needed to off-load, the budget he has had to work with. And we would all be interested to hear your superior wisdom regarding exactly how he could have done things better.
I like it when the bus-driver is respectful and polite; but I don't mind it if a football manager has a certain amount of arrogance.....
Even tho he did not want to here after his friend Brown was sacked, yes we are so rich that we can afford to waste £45,000 a week on a cripple who obviously didn't want to be here.
one of the major differences between Taylor and Pearson has been the circumstances of where they started. Taylor started in the bottom division where we were getting crowds up to 7 times as big as the rest of the league. This gave us leverage to build a squad for promotion. There was dead wood to clear away but it wasn't as expensive as that which Pearson has had to deal with. It was almost the same next season. We will never know if anyone else could have managed us to the back to back promotions - after all, other teams have had similar advantages and not succeded. Taylor deserves credited for his achievements. But I would bet good money that there were other managers who could have done the same with the hand that he was dealt. In contrast Pearson has had to rebuild a team where the best players were bailing out, we were in financial trouble and we are competing against teams with equivalent or bigger budgets. It is by no means a finished article and I don't think the team is close to being as exciting as the Brown lead promotion. But it is a team that has promise and if (and only if) that promise is fulfilled then Pearson will have won the right to be regarded as one of the best managers. From what I have seen I like Pearson's approach and demeanour and hope he does succeed.
Pearson hasn't achieved anything in comparison to the other 2 yet (i won't deny Taylor and Brownie's legendary status and success here) but NP's helped turn around and transform a team that came down in tatters from the PL, helped avert a potential relegation last season thereby steadying the ship and setting us on to a brighter future with a young team who could be a success. Therefore, i feel NP is one of the best managers i've seen at city. Of course he needs to improve on stuff, christ if he was a great manager he'd be at a top job in the PL. The style of football may not be the best, i would love us to win like the 2 manchester clubs are but whether we like his style of play or not recently it has got us results, and 4 games unbeaten doesn't happen by accident. Pearson isn't half as bad as you make him out to be.
Not read all the posts. Big Nigel is the tops for me. Love his radio interviews. He doesnt suffer fools or stupid questions. Behind NP 100 Percent. Here's hoping he tells the next person who asks him a stupid question to F off. . Reminds me of some of the interviews the great Brian Clough use to give.. Along with Terry Neil and Peter Taylor big Nigel is in my top 3 managers we have ever had. . .
Agreed. Although Little was given quite a bit of money to bring in the likes of Alexander, Dudfield, Beresford & Williams in Div 4 and we flattered to deceive that season. We may have paniced and changed managers too soon in that instance.
