I'm not sure 21,000 + deaths in under 8 weeks is a success :emoticon-0145-shake.
Pretty sure it was stated 20,000 overall in March .
This is just recorded Hospital ones .

Germany’s leading coronavirus expert Christian Drosten on Merkel’s leadership, the UK response and the ‘prevention paradox’

Q: From where you stand, how is the UK handling the situation?
A:
It’s clear that testing was implemented a little bit too late in the UK. Public Health England was in a position to diagnose the disease very early on – we worked with them to make the diagnostic test – but rollout in Germany was driven in part by market forces, which made it fast, and that wasn’t the case in the UK. Now, though, I have the impression that the UK is really gaining momentum in this regard, and that it is coordinating testing efforts better than Germany.

Yes this is true !
So how is claiming it's a success now that we've surpassed this number?

So given that we are where we are, which is in the throws of an international crisis, what's your big idea to correct what you perceive as this big error?

Best case scenario is exactly that and is very rarely hit. It will always be easy for the opposition and or people who are not fans of the government to pick fault and look back over choices that where made and pull them to bits with the benefit of hindsight and knowing exact how things played out, all whilst the people they are pulling to bits have to make those choices knowing only the info the have presented to them at the time. Have the government made mistakes? Possibly. But there's hardly a play book for any of this, no previous to look back on and learn from mistakes. I don't envy Boris and his team one bit during all this

i appreciate you're just making numbers up to suit your political stance but the figures quoted only a short time ago were shocking - preliminary estimate were 400k in the uk in Feb and even 25k in Wales in mid March - whilst todays figures are tragic they aren't anything like as bad as they could have been had the UK not taken the measures they did - you need to remember that all parties were behind the lockdown when it was imposed and no other party screamed out for action to be taken anytime earlier - the only people calling out now are silly ****s who are trying to make political mileage out of the situation and those with a degree in hindsight who clearly know better than WHO and all the scientific advice that was advising the Government - perhaps the present compliment of Sage should be retired off and replaced by all the silly ****s

I predict that COVID 19 will be beaten by one thing and one thing alone. Not a vaccine, a mobile phone app. And you can bet that for every person looking for the vaccine, there will be ten trying to create a COVID 19 warning app.

It really does ... so the 2009 government ultimately did not stockpile like instructed ... amazing how far back the failures go after all
Having just rescued the banks after the failure of free-market capitalism, the Labour government didn't have spare cash for this.

And this is where hindsight and stone throwing come in. Everything can be twisted to suit anyone’s political requirements. Even during a Pandemic.

Glad someone else saw the irony of this all and the irony of people blaming the current crop for failures in whats happened
