Should the football season be cancelled and declared null and void?

How about if it finishes later than September? October? November? December? At what point is it just ridiculous and clearly not this season anymore?

And at what point does continuing this season destroy next season? Do you think it’s worth messing up or writing off next season for the sake of playing the final 9 games of this season?

Why is it more fair to take current results as final, ignoring the 27-30 points still on offer which could entirely change every clubs position, rather than null and void?
No future football matters until this season has concluded. If it takes ten years then it takes ten years.

Bit of an hysterical overstatement though, Stan. By definition, the 2019-2020 could end any time in 2020. How does that transfer into ten years?

Not by what I wanted, it wasn't null and void by definition.

I don't see how you can argue carrying a season points forward when you class it as null and void.

That has never been my position. I posed the question though as I see even that bizarre outcome as fairer than null and void.

I've a question for people, many supporters would have already paid for the remaining games at their respective clubs, which will include many season tickets, would fans accept not receiving a refund if the season was voided.

Fortunately for myself I'd only paid cash in advance for one game, I can't remember how much it was about £22 I think, tbph I'm not bothered if I see no return on it, it is what it is, but I know alot of people might not be able to afford or believe they should be expected to forgo their loss.

So we've talked about sacrifices of clubs and players, but what about the supporters in all this?

I just don’t see why this season is so ****ing important that future football competitions and tournaments need to be massively disrupted just to finish this season. Bear in mind voiding the season guarantees no CL football for United so it’s not like my club benefits from it.

I also think very little thought is given to the lower leagues and non leagues as it’s all about the PL and Liverpool getting their title.

If Woking have to play matches behind closed doors then they lose money at every home game. But they’re a [HASHTAG]#smallclub[/HASHTAG] so who cares, right?

Tbh I've read what you've posted earlier and we agree on far more than we disagree. Our only difference is I believe it should be all... or nothing.

And when I say 'nothing' that would be because all comps can't be completed before the end of June. We probably won't be able to finish by then hence why I think that should be a likely option.

The problem is that this is all academic, we could say end of 2020 and the pandemic still won't allow it. So once again, it should still be an option.

The focus on here is far to much on 'null and void' because that's where all the disagreement is. I bet most want all the comps completed but that seems to have been lost on here.

Anyway that's my thinking.

It's about the 9th best option

  1. Finish season with (reduced) crowds........... Viable option
  2. Finish season behind closed doors................Viable option
  3. Extrapolation based on points per game..........Not an option since we all know games can be a lottery (City v Norwich, Liverpool v Watford etc)
  4. Award 1 point per remaining fixture..................Not an option (see 3)
  5. Final results based on current table (equal number of games; ignore latest fixture if necessary)...Not an option when it involves relegating teams with 27 points left to play for)
  6. Expand league with promotion but no relegation..........What would be the point of this?
  7. Final results based on current table (unequal number of games)..Not an option (see 5)
  8. Only recognise Champions and European places....Not an option, there are no champions yet and the CL places are still up for grabs (27 points)
  9. Only recognise Champions...Possible if there were any
  10. Void entire season...Sense at last <ok>
  11. Void entire season except League Cup and Community Shield........Also a viable choice <ok>

I think there is a simple way to resolve all this, give clubs one of two choices;

Complete this season, from August 2020-21 and scrap the 20-21 season

OR

Scrap this season and start the 2020-21 campaign as per normal schedule

<whistle>

I know, I know.

You can save nearly a month by bringing the Prem teams into the cups later and making the European games knockout from the start. Again, if there's a will you can cut it right down.
But that’s dicking about with two future competitions just to get this season’s PL finished.

If the season was voided and Watford were guaranteed Prom football next season I would happily take the financial hit of no refund
I am sure Villa and Bournemouth fans would feel the same

I just am not seeing how they are going to complete the season fairly, it's beyond any chance of that. My own club for instance (Gills) they were pushing for a play-off place, and were on good form, all because of loan players, we will not have those players once/if the season recommences, so we will lose out, as a result of the season being restarted at a date well pass its schedule.

Yeah, keep all that "integrity" in tact eh <whistle>

As already mentioned, the FA and The Football League forced Liverpool to play 9 games in 26 days in '89 to finish a season so that it kept its 'integrity', so yeah - finishing one competition before you start another would seem to be the precedent where integrity is concerned with the FA and the League.

And in 89 the League were quite right, it kept the integrity of the competitions. Now you are talking about changing the whole format of some just to give Liverpool a title <laugh>

And so would Norwich. I admire the sacrifice you're, er, making there...:bandit:

Because the ONLY thing that matters is THE SPECIAL SEASON.

They’d literally want it played out in a years time if need be, as if that’d in any way be the same competition, but hey, SPECIAL.
