Should the football season be cancelled and declared null and void?

Mine is just using common sense by looking at what is in front of us and what seems like the logical way forward.

Okay then, I'll suspend my instinct to gag for one second and pretend you really mean that (though you instantly dismiss any other than null and void for ended it here as unfair, but admit all endings now are unfair), and I'll ask you this - null and void and you carry this season's points into next? I'll sit back while you somehow make out that is more unfair than null and void on its own.

Decent chance they scrap the 3pm blackout and better streams are available.
They won’t scrap the 3pm blackout. That would kill off dozens of football clubs within months.

At some point you’ll have to accept that the football authorities don’t consider spacky plackies watching internet streams as the foundation of the game.

That makes no sense... so we play a full season but add the points from this season? So different teams play different opposition a different amount of times with differing amount of home and away games? That’s ridiculous! Unless I’ve misunderstood you?

It's already scrapped for this season at least.

So they've not taken a null and void stance, but a where you are now one.

Er, pop?

You’re conflating the sharing out the TV cash in an equitable manner by the league itself, and your call of relegating teams based on 70% completion of the season. That former is happening, the latter will never happen.

You consider null and void fair, despite the fact that some teams like Norwich deserve to be relegated, and some teams like Spurs will play in the CL instead of Leicester, but somehow that is more unfair? It's 'blanket' - we'd all know where we stood, and if necessary, we could incorporate the nine games left of this season into it too. But how that is less fair than scrapping a season three-quarters of the way through is ****ed in the head. Virtually any of the other ways of ending it now are fairer than null and void, and luckily the head of UEFA has confirmed that.

@liverpoolfans how would you feel about the season being binned, no promotions or relegations but whoever is top of each league are crowned champions*?

If they play behind closed doors. I think you’d actually prefer football to go down that route. All games live on TV, no fans at the games.

Fine so long as rivals are forced to enable their webcams to see their tears.

I'm not. Rather than calling it off and sharing the pot equally between twenty, they've based it on what the standings are now. That is right, isn't it? AVFCW, is that fair in your eyes, and 'nobody was won or lost anything yet'? What about home advantage and that some teams haven't played each other twice? Surely it should be split equally between twenty as if no results had happened?

If they haven’t mathematically been relegated or qualified for something then they don’t deserve it based on 70% completion of the season. That’s the facts.

How is it less fair to add this seasons points to a new season than to scrap it? Because it’s a ridiculous idea to add this seasons points to next season, it’d make it a completely uneven competition for every team as they’d all have different amounts of games against different teams. Honestly can’t even believe someone is suggesting that as anything other than ludicrous. Of course that wouldn’t be fair! Think about it for a minute.

There are no ways fairer than null and void if the season can’t be finished and you’re yet to give a solution and reasoning why it’s more fair.

Splitting the money this way to help clubs with their finances and compensate clubs for results so far seems an ok solution in a difficult situation, not perfect but ok.

That’s different to awarding final positions based on an incomplete season and the fate of clubs in the relegation spots being taken away from them while awarding qualification to competitions for teams who haven’t earned it.

No, you really are. They’re not releasing all of the cash yet, just a large slice of it, in order to aid cash flow.

The difference per place is circa £1.9m

You get relegated and you’ve lost the £100m+ per season bounty.

Spot the difference.

It's about the 9th best option

  1. Finish season with (reduced) crowds
  2. Finish season behind closed doors
  3. Extrapolation based on points per game
  4. Award 1 point per remaining fixture
  5. Final results based on current table (equal number of games; ignore latest fixture if necessary)
  6. Expand league with promotion but no relegation
  7. Final results based on current table (unequal number of games)
  8. Only recognise Champions and European places
  9. Only recognise Champions
  10. Void entire season
  11. Void entire season except League Cup and Community Shield
