G what’s your opinion on the figures being possibly misleading, where you have people dying WITH COVID-19, but possibly not dying BECAUSE of COVID-19 ?

Interesting. Over the last couple of weeks or so I have managed to pick up eggs, a packet of paracetamol, bog roll and today pasta all in the village in our village shop and village pharmacy. We have a butcher and used to have a baker and are rapidly coming to the view that we're not leaving the village as we can get it all until it's all over.
Must be different up north. Last week the vultures around these parts had stripped all the local stores and pharmacies dry of any staple produce. Wasn’t an egg to be found.
As a complete non expert, I think we will only know this time next year what the true ‘additional’ death toll is. About 600,000 people die every year in the UK. Anything significantly above that figure will be the true cost of the virus. Some of those who die ‘of’ COVID-19 would have died due to flu or another form of pneumonia this year. Others would be taken by their underlying cancer, hypertension, diabetes etc etc. Many wouldn’t have died this year if it weren’t for the virus. We’ll only get an idea with hindsight. Do you have any idea of the number of critical - ventilated - patients who survive? I’m wondering how effective intensive treatment is. If the majority get better with intensive care, then our issue is capacity and the governments strategy is the right one - spread it out to protect capacity. If loads of people are dying anyway the problem is lack of treatment options and it doesn’t really matter what the strategy is until we have new treatments.
No like as per Stainsey. I think my lad is in the same boat, his firm was pondering stopping work tonight, and of course he is on the builders self employed package. It’s a bummer. I expect all these elderly and vulnerable people to be ****ing grateful.
Yes and although it’s so sad to witness this is far better than the 250k that was doing rounds last week. as for recorded deaths... once again I listen to the scientist on Sky who said Germany do things differently with causes of death. I believe he said if people die say of cancer they don’t test for Covid 19 whereas we do. In that case I except our deaths to seem higher.
