Just got a message from one of my GP friends. He's by nature a cynic and he was dismissive of the virus when it first hit the news (so was I, partly because he said it was nothing to worry about). His message was very emotional, wishing us all the best, saying it's going to be a long haul and will impact our lives massively and we should call whenever we needed medical advice. It's taken me by surprise as it's so out of character for him but he's in the front line and he'll be hearing and seeing stuff that we aren't party to.

Just did the shop for my dad. Expected the usual missing bog rolls, kitchen rolls, pasta but discovered there's no eggs, no bread, no frozen chips <doh>

At which point I started walking around the aisles saying "bloody animals!" out loud... often at random strangers.

Those fckers know who they are even if I don't.

Try online mate, I just looked and you can get eggs and frozen chips a plenty. Bog roll is still out, but there are some lessor selected brands available, and pasta is available if you don't mind paying a bit more for it, it's all the cheap stuff consumers have grabbed.

I've never known anything like this in my lifetime. It's like we are asking businesses to just become dormant for 3-4 months!
Over the past few years a few of these mo ney programmes have urged people to try and have enough money to cover 4 months if they come out if work .

Thanks mate I'll try that. Tbh I went 2 places so by the 2nd one I was like, this is madness. I mean seriously, do these morons think the virus has stopped chickens laying eggs.

Btw the bakery section still had the fresh granary, wholemeal and white sliced breads they make that day. Yet the regular hovis, warburtons etc shelves all empty. Very very very weird!!

Further evidence that a frightening amount of brits are ‘special’.
The drop in sales of Corona is my personal favourite

10m U.K. households have no savings.

A further 3.5m households have less than £1500 put away.

My guess is people are putting those latter breads in the freezer. I'm assuming (don't know) the fresh baked don't have the same preservatives.

One of the big problems is that the World Health Organisation has made their advice way too complicated for our Prime Minister and his cabinet ... how the hell are Boris and his boys meant to makes sense of "Test, test, test" ... it's just all too confusing <doh>
He looked bored to tears during the press conference this afternoon. It was supposed to be all about speeches and parties!

We've just set up a support group in my area to support the vulnerable elderly and self isolaters. You've probably seen those help cards online. We're using that as a template and we've got around 50 volunteers who've agreed to help already, hopefully more will join.

I've been speaking with some of my local councillors, they've got an emergency meeting tomorrow, so hopefully they can help to coordinate all of this too and give us the resources we need, face masks, hand sanitiser etc. Spoke to my GP friend earlier today and she basically said that the time for social distancing and self isolation for the elderly is NOW. The govt are dragging their heels and the opportunity to limit the spread is quickly diminishing.

Here in Cornwall we have 21 ICU beds. My friend anticipates that we will need hundreds. I asked whether the GP surgeries would be able to assist in helping us to identify needs for those at risk, she said their protocols are coming down to things like who gets oxygen and who doesn't. I really felt for her, the GP's and health care workers are going to have to make some hideous decisions over the coming weeks and months.

Sobering stuff.

I'd urge you all please if you have elderly relatives to encourage them to self isolate now, don't wait for the Govt to tell you to do so. They can still go out for walks, drive in the car etc. But the over 70's shouldn't be going anywhere near Supermarkets, Pubs, Cafes, or any places where large numbers of people congregate.

I'd also please urge you all to look out for your neighbours and offer whatever support you can. It's going to get really bumpy over the coming weeks....
Gayest post ever.
