Sorry if it upset you Col.

Death remains a great taboo subject.

Just sounded like "oh well, the old people are going to die relatively soon, so **** 'em".
My parents are long gone, but I have other elderly relations that I'd rather didn't get this virus. I also have many friends who are worried about the well being of their parents.

You've been pretty flippant about this whole thing from the outset and I agree that there has been ridiculous over reacting, fuelled by a lot of the press and tv media.

Let's hope you're right and everyone is over reacting.
However, experts seem to think that an awful lot of people could well get this virus, passing it on without even realising that they have it.
This could lead to tens of thousands of dead elderly and vulnerable people who, seasonal flu not withstanding, would otherwise have stayed alive.

    As I said, pretty crass.

Not arguing. I thought we debated?
    Not upset either.

    Just didn't like the inference.

I sincerely hope that you've been right all along and that there's nothing to worry about.

My wife is disabled, has asthma, type 2 diabetes and assorted other ailments and has been advised to remain away from large gatherings and crowds to be on the safe side, but only because she is in the “at more risk” group than most of us and not because as the daily fail says “WER’E ALL GOING TO DIE “ etc.
Yes, it appears to be a nasty disease but remember influenza and road traffic accidents kill more people each year currently than Covid-19 and because of this more people are worried about the rate of inflation, their stocks and shares and investments than poor 90 year old Aunty Enid in the old folks home.
For tips on survival let’s all watch I AM LEGEND just incase it turns out that way.
Tip 1 / Buy an Alsatian.
Tip 2 / Avoid the isle of dogs as they are all rabid and flesh eating zombies already.
Tip 3 / stop buying all the feckin bog roll, you’ll have a runny nose, not a runny arse.
Tip 4 / Don’t believe the mainstream media.
Have a nice day AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATCHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!

In the city today for a meeting and couldn't help noticing the amount of masks! 99% from the Chinese community. One guy at the tube station had 2 masks on with a scarf half way up and tight plastic clothes and plastic gloves... I am not joking.
    I wanted to punch him.

Coronavirus conference ‘cancelled due to coronavirus’
Council on Foreign Relations roundtable joins growing list of axed or postponed events including Coachella music festival

A business conference focusing on coronavirus has reportedly been cancelled to avoid spreading the virus.

The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) cancelled a roundtable conference which was meant to take place on Friday, alongside other in-person conferences scheduled between 11 March and 3 April around the US.

The CFR’s “Doing Business Under Coronavirus” conference joins a growing list of cancelled or postponed events in New York state, which holds the largest cluster of cases in the US.

The think tank told The Independent: "Due to the evolving COVID-19 situation, the Council on Foreign Relations, like many other organisations, has suspended all in-person events effectively today through at least Friday, 3 April 2020. Our foremost concern is for the health and safety of Council members, staff and the community."

Authorities have confirmed 173 cases of the virus in New York, with 108 of them located in New Rochelle where a one-mile (1.6 km) “containment zone” has been enforced.

Andrew Cuomo, governor of the state, announced National Guard troops would be deployed into New Rochelle to deliver food and help contain the outbreak.

He said: “It is a dramatic action, but it is the largest cluster of cases in the country. The numbers are going up unabated and we do need a public health strategy.”

Events and gatherings in nearly every imaginable sector, from sports to business to culture, have been cancelled or postponed as the US tries to contain the coronavirus outbreak which has infected more than 1,000 people and killed 29.

A major tennis tournament, the BNP Paribas Open, which was due to take place in California this week was cancelled after local health authorities declared a public health emergency in the Coachella Valley.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has also been affected. The festival, attended by hundreds of thousands of people annually, was postponed from its original dates in April to October.

After Ohio confirmed three cases of coronavirus, Democratic candidates Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden called off campaign events in Cleveland on Tuesday in the first major presidential race cancellations related to the virus.

The rising number in cases in the US prompted the White House and congress to consider measures on Tuesday to bolster the US economy and citizens’ paychecks, but no immediate deal has been reached yet.

The World Health Organisation have described the situation as a worldwide pandemic. Should have done that weeks ago.

It's crazy that tonight's match at Anfield goes ahead with thousands of Spanish fans over from Madrid which has had over 700 cases and 35 deaths. UEFA are really being irresponsible in putting money and sponsors ahead of player's and fan's welfare. As for our government they're far too slow in properly implementing control measures bearing in mind the two week gap until symptoms really take hold, the next week or so will see whether they were right...

It's been really difficult for any government to get the balance right imo.
Idiots are already panicking as if it's the black death. Any ramping up from the authorities will send this Country into full blown panic.
I reckon they've held back for as long as possible for exactly that reason.
However, I think they will really go for it now and we may not see any more football matches this season.
The economy is going to be massively hit by this thing, but clearly we must protect ALL our citizens, not just the ones under 75 who are fit and healthy.

I don't know what it's like for you but over here work has fallen off a cliff, I start at 5.00am and up to 9.00 is usually non-stop, today I did 3 jobs by 11.00 and called it a day, even the corporate work is drying up. Might be time for a break...
