Law came back in 1962, he only spent a year in Italy.

Saw Hitchens play against Bridlington Trinity in an FA Cup qualifier for Worcester City in 1969. As a Brid Town fan had to force myself to go along to it. Knew a Trinity player who couldn’t believe the opulence of the facilities, changing room complete with marble baths, at Worcester when they went there for the replay which they lost. Good performances considering the gap in leagues between them at the time.
Of course he did - I saw him play for Man U vs Leeds U a number of times when I was living in Leeds !

Saw him play in a night match at Bolton late 1962. Man U got slugged 3-0. 46,000 there. Made me wonder how they got that many in when I went to a virtually unchanged stadium 9 years later with City. Though, even more amazingly, their record crowd there is over 8,000 more than Liverpool’s. Wouldn’t like to have been in Burnden Park with just under 70,000 in there.

I was surprised how much of a struggle this was.

Rotherham gave us David Seaman, Duggie Brown, Chuckle Brothers, William Hague, Ivy Tilsley and Howard Webb.

The Rotherham Advertiser was the crucible in which the UK's leading literary light, Jeremy Clarkson, was smelted.

They made many of the cannons for HMS Victory and the steel plates for the SS Great Eastern.

Jamie Oliver's television series Jamie's Ministry of Food (2008) was based in Rotherham. He aimed to make Rotherham "the culinary capital of the United Kingdom"

The brick-built glass making furnace, the Catcliffe Glass Cone, is the oldest surviving structure of its type in Western Europe.

The first Rotherham United home strip was yellow and black.

Rotherham United are called the Millers because there is a Hovis Mill near to the ground.

Rotherham played in the first ever League Cup Final, losing 3-2 on aggregate to Aston Villa in 1961.

Rotherham United came from the merging of Rotherham Town and Rotherham County.
Rotherham also gave us Ian Butler, Ken Houghton and Trevor ****ing Philips.

I am told that the highest ever league attendance at home for Hull City was against Rotherham United on Christmas Day 1948. The official attendance was a few hundred off 50,000 although one match site statistic gives an attendance of a few hundred short of 55,000.

Rotherham United hold a unique record in the 4 tiers of the Football League which under present conditions will remain forever. Any idea?

If Rotherham put out their normal match day team then it will be a tough game, they are going well at present, and it will be a tough challenge. However, even with a few players who are not in our first team we still should be able to put out a team capable of beating them.

I would go with:

Ingram
Pennington, Taff, McLoughlin, Fleming
Honeyman Kane Batty
Bowler Eaves Lewis-Potter

Their ground was built on a leveled off slagheap ?

I would expect McCann to play several reserves with a home game against Fulham coming up. We beat them 3-0 away and a win could put us in the Top-6 playoff spots.

Ingram

McKenzie Pennington Tafazolli McLaughlin
Bowen (to cup-tie him) Kane DaSilva Bowen
Honeyman
Eaves or KLP
Two Bowens, dare to dream

Hmm. With you saying current format, I was thinking it could relate to two points for a win, or play offs. But I'm going to go for the most times finishing bottom of the league without being relegated. I'm thinking of the time when you had to be voted for re-election.

We sold 55,000 tickets for the game, an all time third tier record. The reason for the actual crowd being 49,000 was a bus drivers strike. Amazing that many got there when so few had cars. Wouldn’t happen nowadays. Heaven knows how early they left the game as their tea was waiting.<laugh>
We have the highest average for a third tier season, 37,000. In the list of top averages we are just one place below Leeds and the only one in the top 25 to have achieved their highest average outside the top flight.

You are on the right track with 2 points for a win. They hold the record for the most points gained by a relegated team when there were 2 points for a win.

<ok>

Aye, I didn't think my final guess was right, but I recall there is/was a team that got lucky a couple of times due to the team that had won promotion from the conference not being allowed in, so plumped for that. Rotherham didn't ring a bell though.

Rotherham were the first club to sell pukka pies in the ground though. <ok>

Yes, it was. Added to Waggy and the total cost was £120,000 which was slightly more than the world record transfer fee at the time, the £115,000 Man Utd paid for Denis Law. That would mean us spending over £90 million on 3 players now to do the same. Shows what has happened to football in the intervening years.
If I remember rightly they both signed a week apart.I think Ian Butler was first. It was in January 65

My husband thinks it was an early kick-off around 11 am. His dad had a car and they could have arrived home in time for Christmas dinner! Any old programmes or memories to verify the early kick-off?

What a stupid reply.

Yours was. My father in law, a Man Utd “fan’ said to me at a family do when we were heading out of the bottom flight that I couldn’t be happy with our buying our way out of the division. I heard my wife groan as she knew what was going to happen next. And it did.
