Most of those don't relate to "incompetence". Dodging questions about cocaine, Obama quote, gay quote, personal life etc are not issues of competence.

The one issue that was incompetent was the Iranian woman, Zaghari-Radcliffe. That was an example of Boris's laziness that I referred to, and his failure to prepare or read briefings. His team will have to be all over him like a rash in the future.

That's the issue, Ellers. The reason the Jewish community are so critical of Corbyn is not because he walks down Whitehall with an "I hate Jews" t-shirt, but because, at least until recently when the spotlight is well and truly on Labour and there's a GE on, Corbyn and his coterie just ignored the problem.

There will be racists in every party. The issue for the leader is how you deal with them.

I knew you would say that.

To my mind, it was an unrealistic statement of intent. A more competent politician wouldn't have made a promise to achieve something that was unrealistic all along. I think his first action as PM should have been to call the general election immediately as it was clear then that the current parliament was intent on blocking any deal.

I hope a deal goes through too as no deal would be disastrous for everybody.

The Bridge, the water cannons, getting fired for making **** up. I'd also consider lack of diplomacy and lack of prep incompetence as well in his position

The reason he didn't frame it in any other way, was that he wanted to put into the EU's minds that there could be a no deal, and therefore they should focus on giving him an improved deal. And it worked. Everyone was saying - is he going to do something clever to get around the Surrender Act?

Of course, it would have been better not to have had the Surrender Act at all. I have a feeling a lot of those MP's that voted for it, won't be around from next month on

If Corbyn is in a position to be making a new deal with the EU, he may well be able to get it through Parliament.

So, how is Boris dealing with his own personal islamophobia problem? Does he kick himself out of the Tory party or is just a lad having a laugh by calling people letterboxes?

He's generally regarded as having been a decent Mayor of London. There are projects that get pulled or lose money. It's a fact of life. The water cannons were rash - May pulled the rug. We're not talking major money here.

It would be a coalition on tight numbers. There are Leavers in his own party.

It's not Islamaphobic to say that a piece of material makes people look like letterboxes. His article was actually defending the right of Muslim women - at least, those few that want to - to wear it

Oh come on, to raise the projects themselves were incompetence, I get what your saying and respect your opinion but you have to concede his massive number of undiplomatic gaffs also show his incompetence, being that a major part of his job is being a diplomat.

As there are Remainers in the Tory party, probably even in the new Parliament. You are counting chickens anyway.

    mmmmmmmm defending the indefensible.

Ask Muslim women if they feel being called letterboxes from a man of such high standing is acceptable. I'm sure you will get a very different response. In fact, I have seen many muslim women interviewed who have said attacks on their community have increased as a direct result of what he said. Politicians should not speak in this language of any community unless they want to be part of the NF, EDL, and the likes.

Agree about him being verbally gaff prone in the past, but much of it has had very little significance, apart from the Iranian example. Balance that against the fact that the world and his wife said he'd never get the backstop removed from the Withdrawal Agreement, and he did just that.

As I say, his record as Mayor of London was generally good. The question is, whether the public see a foot-in-mouth merchant like Boris as incompetent. I don't think they do - but he can't afford to have another Iranian-type issue

You're wrong there. Boris has kicked out virtually all of the Tory Remainers, and made his MP's sign up to his agreement

Think that's about as close as we will get to agreeing, as demonstrated above his actions have had consequences, and for a man in his position he can't afford to be doing this... a lot... :emoticon-0150-hands
