It shows the UK borrowing way below that of France. Thankfully the UK has had a fiscally responsible government since 2010.

As per, when you're stuck you bring France up.

There's absolutely no point in trying to debate anything with you, the usual soundbites come out every time.

I supply facts, facts and more facts. Unfortunately they are inconvenient for some people.

I think that the figures speak for themselves. 2010 Government debt £1.194 billion, but after all the austerity it is now £1.838 billion. They show how broken the economy has become under this failed regime.

The facts are SH that government debt in the UK stands at 85.3% of GDP - the overall EU average is 80.7%. Britain's is the 8th highest in the EU (measured against GDP). For want of comparison Germany is on 61%, Romania 34.1% and Poland 49.1% - the lowest are Estonia, Bulgaria and Luxembourg. These supply facts to your facts and more facts.

BUT WHAT ABOUT FRANCE?!?!?!

BUT WHAT ABOUT FRANCE?!?!?!

Well, France is a near neighbour and a similar comparative size. The benefit of having a fiscally responsible Tory government is clearly seen when compared to France who has yet to address it's 2.4 Trillion Euro debt mountain. It's government debt to GDP is almost 100%. A Labour government with uncosted grandiose ideas on spending borrowed money willy nilly is a frightening prospect. A Labour government would result in the UK being the worst place for inward investment instead of being at the top under the Tories.

You forgot France on 98%

Actually I was well aware of the position of France. The fact remains that Britain's national debt is still too high, above the EU. average, and placed amongst the top 8 EU nations in this respect. You say that France is a close neighbour with a relative size - but the same applies to Germany.

Germany has sensible fiscal rules France alas does not.

To put this into perspective the USA has a government debt to GDP ratio of 105.4%.
The USA is extremely worried about having a debt level that high which is why Trump is trying to re-balance the unfair trading relationships between it and China and the EU. Expect firm action by the USA on the EU once the UK has left.

I dare say that if the French government stopped providing enough housing for the population, reduced payments to people out of a job to poverty levels, made cuts larger than the ones imposed to education, charged large fees to those wanting to enter further education and cut public services to the police and hospitals, then they could do so, but they seem to want a society that is not broken.

It is worrying if you live there, they will be forced to address it at some stage.

France is a wonderful country, I just wish it was more fiscally responsible. I'm free next summer to offer some advice to it's government. No 1, the government should grow a backbone, no 2, don't borrow so much.
