I believe he has 3 promotions to his name with two at this level.. He deserves our respect and backing, so let's hope he gets it.
I can't believe that I have read some saying they will stop going because of him! Why?
Some expect us to be playing football like man City, and don't think parkinson will provide it?

Me too, let's hope the 2nd half is in the Championship.

In reality contracts are largely irrelevant tbh.
There's every chance that there'll be various cut off clauses and maximum pay off figures, i.e. no more than a years pay or something like that.

Cos I lost 10 quid in a bet:emoticon-0107-sweat

In all honesty I support the club and all its employees. I can do nowt about who the club employ so back them regardless.

It's each to their own, maybe they are sick of listening to spin doctors, also the level to which we have fallen.
FWIW I'll still be there, but understandable as to why others may wrap it in.

Respect is earned and should never be doled out like kets.
In football especially what you achieved in the past with other teams is irrelevant.
He has to earn it with us.
People are quite justified to be at least cautious and very disappointed.
He is a dull uninspiring appt and of course is going to be judged on what people know..his record of hoofball, defensive style and his delegations.
We have spent over 70 games watching the eye bleeding football of ross. It's a bit much to stomach if more of the same is on the menu.
I hope I'm wrong and we zip up the league and with this squad our support and the facilities we should have bombed it.
If he is half decent there should be no problem.
But hey ho

I agree that respect is earned, but at least give him a chance..

I would have preferred others to him who are clearly available and shortlisted but it is what it is.

He needs a good start, otherwise the tide will turn very quickly.

QPR fan in peace:
Think you have got someone with something to prove. He did well at Bolton in dire circumstances - I think he will do well with you guys. You have also given him time to get to know the team he has inherited prior to the next transfer window so he can hen make any changes he needs to
Good luck for rest of the season

Man Utd ;)

1 billion in debt, 3 dreadful managerial appointments, poor squad and owners who don't seem interested!
I could live with that if we were playing in the same league mate.

I think I probably just need a couple of days to get over the disappointment of recent events. Who knows, hopefully it's just a period of time until good things happen.

Down there with Wilko in the "uninspiring" category but I welcome the change from Ross who was getting worse and worse each week

Ross had to be fired. We were stagnating.

At least with Parkinson we will hopefully move. Whether that's up or down remains to be seen.

He is not gonna be given much of a honeymoon period. Rightly or wrongly , that's just the way it will be.

Good luck to the new man.

Of I will give him a chance but that doesn't mean I have to be all hare Krishna about his appt, like some.
The sycophantic tosh on the various sites is well over the top but in keeping with those usual suspects who want to keep sweet with the club rather than saying it is what it is.

If you read the club statement regarding this appointment, the amount of spin put in it beggars belief. They state...

SAFC’s chairman, Stewart Donald, added: “Phil has a proven track record when it comes to achieving promotion and I’m delighted to welcome him to Sunderland. his record achievements.

not a mention of his relegations ,sackings etc..

His honours include...

Quite some achievement for 16 years as a manager....

2 and half year contract

Wow. That's possibly the worst bit! He wouldn't even be my choice for league one but at least he's been okay at this level. He's never done anything in the championship though. A year and a half to give him the security that if he gets us up this season he'll get a crack at the league above is one thing but unless there are break clauses depending on performance it's crazy that we're setting ourselves up for potentially having to pay off a year and a half if he's **** in the league above, or two years if he doesn't get us up this season. There must be break clauses, they can't be that daft.

Anyway, nowt for it but to getbehind the bloke now. If it doesn't work out Donald can piss off

Have you ever seen a club announcement mentioning the new managers failures? <laugh> or any company appointing a new person?
