In some cases I would agree but in this particular case I know for a fact that unsubstantiated rumours across social media were driving the club to distraction during a very difficult time.

I understand that they were particularly concerned about statements that the deal was done when in fact it was never done and discussions were still very delicate.

The only reason I posted on here in the first place was as a concerned fan of the club and I could see what was happening.

It's pretty clear from the club's statement that my concerns were accurate.

If the club was so concerned about statements that the deal was done then why didn’t they refute the ALS article which was titled “Takeover Confirmed” on the 22nd of August? Why did they not release a statement rebutting the RR podcast, the opening sentence of which was “Following Sunderland’s takeover this week by Michael Dell”? Why didn’t they do more in August when it was claimed that “sources close to the club” had revealed far more detail than the only other news article before that, and that they actually managed to beat The Times to an exclusive?

That could go either way though. Maybe it adds pressure to SD get the deal done so as a concerned fan it could help. Maybe SD isn’t doing the deal cos they’re rightly questioning his strategy, input, demands. We don’t know. Either way scrutiny and clarity over the fans expectations aren’t a bad thing. Bringing them to the game, and introducing them to the manager were what triggered off my expectation. I don’t hate the guy, I don’t think he’s been disrespectful to us but ultimately my belief is that his intention is to make a few quid now and a few quid further on not make us premier league competitors so I’d like him to know there is pressure to get us into a better place than he can offer even if he makes a few less millions. I’m not brown nosing smug here more questioning why as a fan like me you would want to defend Donald to the hilt potentially ahead of a better future for our club. Do we have to say ‘thank you Stewart’ when he is ultimately making a good few bob?
Personally I think if he gets us to a better position than when short was taking us to oblivion, and makes a few bob in the process, then good luck to him. Not having a go btw m8, just saying it as I see it, sd can ultimately do whatever he wants, he’s the owner, we have no influence at all other than as customers of his club, if we disagree with his methods or actions our only real solution is to stop going to matches.

I’m assuming you know the answer to the question raised, and that your rhetorical questions are designed to make a point not just to riv, who, btw, probably posted in good faith to start with, and then got a little carried away having no regard to whether they were damaging or indeed enhancing the prospects of a successful deal, but to anyone who feels it appropriate to divulge confidential information to the general public?

I read it that way too, when the biggest leak of the lot was via the chosen PR channels.

You can talk. Wasn't it you waiting impatiently for smug to reveal what he and his missus had for luncheon yesterday? <laugh>

I've already been reminded by pm mate <laugh>

Mr's Smug had seared sea bass and baby shrimps with a cherry clafoutis desert ...

... I had a ham & pease pudding stottie and a double choc Magnum.

It’s the murky game we’re in. Football is a business so he may make some cash and get us to a better place, or he may make more and get us somewhere less better if that makes sense , but the reality is there is pressure on Donald to get this done. The party he is negotiating with have huge potential and he has whet our appetite intentionally or not. So why would a concerned fan not want Donald to be under pressure to do the deal?

Is it also worth considering that the start of a lot of these 'unsubstantiated message board rumours' was caused by the clear leak of information to the main source of PR used by the owners since their arrival, one of which delivered a podcast talking as if the deal was complete?
This...whoever leaked the info to ALS and then whoever commissioned those SunDELLand t shirts wants shooting with sh#te.

Yes, come on @Smug in Boots !

Also, if you got the aforementioned role, what would your typical day consist of? I don't think I've ever asked you this.

OK mate, but I'll do it on the Mr RAW thread.

I'm sure he won't mind me borrowing his thread for a while.

It'll be on there in about half an hour.

I can't name the property or client but, as Mrs Smug isn't keen on the job, I can post the gist of the role and a few clues.

If you guess the name please don't name her, on here, as they have people tracking Internet searches.

Cheers
