I can’t get my head around why these Americans who live thousands of miles away give a hoot about projects outside the ground. Surly when they come in just get the club successful. Investment into the city would them naturally follow.

The projects outside the ground may be the magnet needed to increase revenues they seek .

If they get us to the Premier League and possibly beyond then things like the hotel go up massively in value because of the increased demand. Similarly if they make the area into an attractive one with say residential premises, other retail and leisure activities then that pushes the value up as well.

Let's imagine they persuade local authorities, education bodies, business to 'help fund' a big extension of the AOL.

Let's imagine thousands of foreign students use the facilities, take free tickets and wear the new badge that is then taken around the world.

When they tell their friends and family about the facilities their peers and siblings will see Sunderland as the place to go.

Local shops, rental agencies, pubs, etc all benefit and spend money in the town.

Smaller concerts are arranged at the AOL as well as sports meetings bringing in more money for the new hotel at the AOL and the other local hotels.

The hoteliers shame the council into using the new revenue, from taxes, to sort the city out.

Ad infinitum .....

Just my two pence worth.

I’m not worried about the cancellation of the talk in cos it could be due to a multitude reasons, some of which has been suggested.

For me it could be any of the below but my opinion is that it’s 1. SD probably assumed all would be sorted by now and they would have the time to sort the talk-in

* they are simply too busy getting this takeover across the line

* Donald may not be the chairmen when the takeover takes place

* The take over is looking shaky so they want to let the dust settle before a talk in

* due to the cancellation of Fleetwood and wants it to take place when more resources are in place to support the night.

gets me excited this, something ya said early on in this. 30odd thousand people going across the water and then going straight back again cos there is little going on near the stadium. Keep us buggers over there for longer i say <cheers>

A tie in with the university? I know all universities spend millions upgrading facilities to attract the best paying foreign students.

That would be huge for the area

I'd add to this that I'm sure Donald (or Methven) mentioned that income from things like hotels could help against FFP. If they get funding and build things under the FPP company it could be another way of boosting funds without them just needing to pour their own money in. If they just make the club successful it'll be others benefiting, which definitely isn't how rich people get richer! They aren't philanthropists, I'm sure they'd be delighted if their involvement also led to improvements for the whole city, but they'll want to be the ones benefiting from it!

A lot of reference to the AOL there, what you heard
We struggled to get the thing built with objections wouldnt of thought there would be any scope for additions there

Quite right mate.

Other clubs rarely bother with talk ins, especially involving the owner, and no real good will come of it.

This is the worst possible time imo.

Word around the camp fire is that it's been realised Consett didn't help the situation and 'family time together' is the official line.

Very sensible.

With no offence to ticket holders, Donald has far more important things to be doing.

I was just saying t’other day it’s a bad sign if the talk in is on as there is no way he would announce it there and it still has a way to go so he will just be bombarded with questions-

The americans will be acutely aware bow of exactly what they are taking on regarding the fans- to them they will see this as pure passion- if Dell had lost interest he certainly wouldnt have his other business interests get worried and have MSD fannying on with us

I know this ia not high up the priority list- bit can they make the roker and east stand look better from outside? That old corrugated iron look is pure back garden

As I posted on smb a mate who spends a fortune on the corporate side was told by our owner that it was all done bar crossing the T and dotting the I’s and it was staffing issues and something to do with the AOL that was holding things up .My mate said he didn’t understand what he was referring to with the AOL but I think you might have cracked that one

I saw the cancelation of fleetwood as another sign that this deal is just about done and they want ross in charge one less game- anyone notice ross talking his win percentage recently? That is what you do when you are gone- like morinho did at utd

Something else we can blame the council for then if this doesn't come off.
