Global warming is caused by hot air & bluster. If the whiny old ****s agreed to keep their traps shut for 3 days a week it’d be sorted.
All I'll say, before reading your posted articles, is that climate change/global warming is not 100 % due to human's activity. Am I wrong ?
I don't think anyone argues against that point - the problem we have is that there are people with vested interests who dismiss the burning of fossil fuels, the reclamation of mangrove swamps/peat bogs and deforestation around the world as 'hysteria'. The world's getting warmer, that's a fact in any language, it's not all down to 'human activity' BUT, mankind isn't helping the situation.
I don't think you're allowed to say mankind anymore - you'll upset a snowflake who'll need to spend time in their safe place to get over it
No disagreement here, well said. Are efforts to reduce/minimize mankind's impact taking place ? Is the "hockey stick theory " broken ?
I can't answer that question, I don't have the knowledge - for the sake of my 2 year old great grand-daughter, and for those yet to come, I truly hope so.
Absolutely not. This is science, nothing is 100%. As others have noted, the climate has always changed, it's just the rate of change without the influence of a meteor strike or massive volcanic activity that is unprecedented.
I agree with this Des. My hubris (which I may be prone to after a drink or two) in saying "100%" is a red herring. I was being overly flippant as I often am. The IPCC report from a few years ago is what made me sadly acknowledge it's a man made issue thats only going to get worse. As a capitalist I find this disturbing as I think the only way we'll find a solution is if someone can figure out a way to make more money fixing the problem than screwing up the planet. https://www.ipcc.ch/site/assets/uploads/2018/02/AR5_SYR_FINAL_SPM.pdf "In its Fifth Assessment Report, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a group of 1,300 independent scientific experts from countries all over the world under the auspices of the United Nations, concluded there's a more than 95 percent probability that human activities over the past 50 years have warmed our planet. The industrial activities that our modern civilization depends upon have raised atmospheric carbon dioxide levels from 280 parts per million to 400 parts per million in the last 150 years. The panel also concluded there's a better than 95 percent probability that human-produced greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide have caused much of the observed increase in Earth's temperatures over the past 50 years."
I think this graphic is the best way to show that the current warming trend is caused by human activity. (I don't know if this image will fit on here so here's the link - https://xkcd.com/1732/ )
who knows? i certainly don't like being preached at. also don't know where i stand on the whole thing, so i'm intending to do some investigation of my own. there are sources of historic data i want to go through and i want to check the claims of both sides as far as possible. i find it off putting that for many it's become a religion that can't be questioned rather than a scientific thing. we already have the laughable religion of diversity, not to mention a shedload of other flakey cults. if i see two sets of people where one lot speaks apparently coherently and the other calls them names, closes down their lectures, and tries to get them sacked from their jobs, any inclination to accept the ideas of the latter set depart rapidly. it may not mean they're wrong, but it does mean they're politically motivated and probably stupid. it appears that in the mid-70s, climatologists though the world was heading for another ice age and considered using soot spread over the polar regions to promote melting of the ice caps to warm the world. https://washingtonsblog.com/2009/12...-ice-in-order-to-prevent-another-ice-age.html
If this was David Attenburgh stood up saying these things I think there would be nowhere near this amount of criticism if any at all .
A problem of unimaginable complexity, not helped by big business and money interests. Think it was Charon that mentioned coal usage, I remember humping sacks of coal around in the late 70's and the introduction of smoke free zones. What a relief when a house wanted a sack of coke rather than nutty slack. So all those years ago we got rid of all that pollution and smoke which was bad for every ones health And yet today wood burning stoves are the eco warriors choice for heating, because it is sustainable. As a layman that seems as stupid as **** to me. And surprise surprise all the kids living in cities are getting breathing problems again, but that's because of cars. But hang on we were all pushed to get rid of our lead polluting petrol driven cars and buy diesel because that was better for the environment. Now diesel is the fuel of Satan and electric cars are the way forward, another trip to the car dealership looms. Best not mention materials needed to make batteries and what to do with them when they reach the end of their useful life. And back to coal It has been the fastest growing energy source worldwide in the 21st century, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA) ?????????????
