I think maybe the only way you'd get near that level of excitement is if you do away games.
Travelling to unknown places and watching a game/having a few beers.
Colleague of mine in his 50s sticks to just Pompey away games - says its so much more fun and lively.
I'd love to go to more!
Yeah aways are much better for that reason, a less sterile atmosphere too.
I like that it takes me to towns I would never even consider visiting otherwise, Burnley this weekend being a good example.

There is usually a reason you would never visit these places though, mainly they are a ****ing dump

Been there twice. Never had a problem.Funny how everyone’s memories of a trip to Pompey include bad weather, **** public transport, misery and general grimness.
Usually at some point you will also get offered out for a fight by some toothless old bearded loon, who looks about 90. Best to decline the offer, btw.
For football.
Sod it both!
He sold his shoe?Funny how nobody really remembers the trips to St Mary's.
Sold your sole when you got rid of The Dell.
Any of you guys ever go to Priestfield in it's hey day....before we built the Subbuteo Stadium?
An open air wall to piss up.....a wooden hut for a cuppa.....you could walk from one end of the ground to the other, so switch halves at half-time....although caused a fair few punch ups in its latter years with visiting supporters, which is why they had to stop it. You had to get to the little wooden dug out by crossing the pitch. just concrete standing areas only either end.
Them were the days.....some of the best![]()

Well that went well.Banned him for sending his unacceptable thoughts behind PM.
It didn't make pretty reading and he will not be welcome back on this forum.

Coventry
Both for football and the city. ****e all round
Never went to Priestfield, but that sounds a lot like Griffin Park used to be. I think there was a “bar” behind one of the stands, that was actually a caravan serving bottled beer and tea.
The first time I went there, I was in the away end with my mate who was a Scunthorpe Utd fan. After half time a few Brentford fans drifted into the visitors end and started winding up the Scunthorpe fans. Nothing happened, just some half hearted mutual jeering - and Scunthorpe lost 3-1.
Oh, and there was no roof on the visitors end.
Well that went well.![]()
