Yeah aways are much better for that reason, a less sterile atmosphere too. I like that it takes me to towns I would never even consider visiting otherwise, Burnley this weekend being a good example.
Nice! That would be a laugh. I've only done 1 to Coventry a few seasons ago in the League cup. It was a laugh but also very depressing considering how poor they were - pretty much nobody in the stadium for example. Leaving the hotel about 5am to get to work for 8 wasn't much fun either! I don't know how guys do midweek away games. Def weekend much better.
Any of you guys ever go to Priestfield in it's hey day....before we built the Subbuteo Stadium? An open air wall to piss up.....a wooden hut for a cuppa.....you could walk from one end of the ground to the other, so switch halves at half-time....although caused a fair few punch ups in its latter years with visiting supporters, which is why they had to stop it. You had to get to the little wooden dug out by crossing the pitch. just concrete standing areas only either end. Them were the days.....some of the best
Never went to Priestfield, but that sounds a lot like Griffin Park used to be. I think there was a “bar” behind one of the stands, that was actually a caravan serving bottled beer and tea. The first time I went there, I was in the away end with my mate who was a Scunthorpe Utd fan. After half time a few Brentford fans drifted into the visitors end and started winding up the Scunthorpe fans. Nothing happened, just some half hearted mutual jeering - and Scunthorpe lost 3-1. Oh, and there was no roof on the visitors end.
Crazy i know but used to love the old place, but i was young then, so yer could cope with most things. Priestfield still don't have a roof for away fans and they have to stand on scaffolding....proper shhite tip. The other three sides are ok....all went to pot when ondigital/itv digital went under, it left us with 10 Million debt after rebuidling the ground, hence why work on the away end never got completed. I used to be a Town End fan in the old days, what is now the Brian Moore Stand, used to love it, because away supporters went in that end, and you could wind them up no end. How the fook i never got my head kicked in, i still never know. Scariest moments were probably when Palace and Brighton came, oh and Pompey. Always lots of talk aout Millwall but they were no bother, they were more interested in invading the pitch or taking over the Rainham End. Still think the best game at Priestfield I ever went to was the FA Cup replay against Everton. If you want a comparison, think Hillsborough way before it happened, yer was just thinking close the fooking gates! Think we crowbar about 17.5k that day into our little shoe box.
