The bottom paragraph is what I mean. I was probably harsh re the missed training as Maddison seemed to confirm it was genuine illness. I don’t agree with the loyalty bonus as you’ve said in another post but the system is there to exploit. If I was the club I’d have pushed him to put in a transfer request or stay
I agree but its standard in players contracts especially better players (Premier League and Championship players) They usually get 10% of their transfer fee This is sacrificed if they hand in a transfer request. This is what pisses me off with Maguire. You can still hand in a transfer request and be professional like Mahrez did at first. Maguire has professional done his job while angling for a move. Club should have said no your not for sale for any price unless you hand in a transfer request.
End of the day Kante, Mahrez and Drinkwater left here as Premier League winners and Maguire best achievements while here was in an England shirt. I wish him all the best but he leaves here not really achieving anything of note for us. To get £85M for someone who isnt world class is amazing business from us
Lads, lads ... let's not be bitter ... just think of it like any other employment ... I've been headhunted before and got 'joining bonuses' ... I appreciate it's footie and that's a bit different .... but Harry Maguire wasn't born in Braunstone and grew up following the City home and away ... he always gave 100% when he pulled the shirt on ... and that will do for me.
Not bitter I think getting £85M for our 2nd best centre half is great business Does this mean Jonny Evans is worth £100M?
Maguire is far far better than Johnny Evans. It’s a shame but as a club we’ll move on. I wish him all the best
He isnt. Evans is a better defender. He reads the game much much better then Maguire While as an all round package Maguire is better but as a defender Evans is better
He really isnt. He is a very good defender no more no less He isnt world class and IMO at 26 years old he wont ever be. But he could kick on like Virgil Van Dijk did at Liverpool My issue with Maguire has always been he doesnt do the basics well enough. I think he he plays aswell as the people around him. When Morgan was having a bad time so did Maguire. When Morgan/Evans/Dragovic was playing well so did Maguire I dont think he alone even with AWB is the answer to sorting Man U’s defence out
Interestingly I think he possibly is the answer. I’m not saying he is anywhere near as good as Van Dijk but I think he is better than Van Dijk was at Southampton, like you said it depends how he kicks on and will be interesting to see. Worry for him is who will be next to him - hopefully he will help Lindelof kick on
Man U have much bigger problems then buying 1 very good defender. Maguire isnt going to make Pogba run, or Lingard to stop acting like a prat. Matic who moves likes an old rusty bus. If I was Man U my major concern would be lack of protection on the defence. How man my tackles has Wilf made covering the defence? Can you see Pogba rushing back to cover Maguire when he runs off with the ball? Hopefully Linderlof falls completely on his arse and scores an own goal every week. While its a thank you and goodbye to Maguire and I dont care how he gets on other then when he plays for England. He doesnt leave here as a legend but he will be fondly remembered
Hes easily the best defender on the ball, its like Okazaki, best defensive forward ever, couldn't hit the back of the net often tho. Teams are looking for the ball playing defenders these days and will likely sacrifice some defensive capabilities to get it. With Maguire squeezing the pitch, it will allow Pogba to play a bit higher up, thats if Pagbas still there next week of course
Unsurprisingly we are linked with a number of CBs - Dunk, Tarkowski, Djene and Bastos to name a few and the new one to add to the list is 21yo Norwegian Kristoffer Ajer from Celtic.
Multiple reports this morning that the 2 players we are looking at is Nathan Ake and James Tarkowski I would prefer Ake
Ake would be my preference. Bournemouth aren't reportedly keen to sell, I wonder if we could encourage them by including Gray in a deal?
Stat from last season Morgan + Maguire – one goal conceded every 64 minutes Evans + Maguire – one goal conceded every 79 minutes Morgan + Evans – one goal conceded every 103 minutes Interesting as we all agree Maguire and Evans was the best partnership
