From some years back, I distinctly rememember spending, literally hours, in a sporting goods store with my young son, trying on every pair of Nike and Adidas shin guards. Kid size too small, adult size too big. Finally he tried on a pair of Umbro shin guards. Glass slipper stuff. Real men wear Umbro.

Umbro was always a football brand made, quite surprised to really hear it hit the USA, but that’s maybe for the 3 year period Nike bought them (to snaffle the England kit deal that is worth billions in sales).

I do love Nike as well, but again, not great for kits. Was delighted when they got the NBA deal other than the fact it made my collection all out of date instantly haha.

I agree. The frustrating thing is the like of adidas and Nike, when they actually bespoke a kit, do a superb job.

They’re all at it, Puma do the by numbers template the fore out the city away kit which is one of the most thoughtful and imaginative things I’ve ever seen.

We get our 2 bits of recycle and then Arsenal get the most beautiful throwback kits you’ll see all year.

I know we are League One, but we deserve at least a little bit of thought, surely?

The only football kit I actually have is a River Plate one I git off M&M direct for £4 and wear to doss around in, have a look on there if you are a collector mate get some absolute bargain footy shirts.
Yeah, Nike, adidas, Puma, when they can be arsed do do a good job. That new City away is a belter.
I used to get the M&M catalogue years ago! Didn't realise they were still going. I'll definitely have a look. I try to limit myself to teams I've seen play (that was aided massively by the random European beer and football weekends I started doing with a couple of mates a few years ago) but that slips to just teams from places I've been quite often and then just to tops I like from time to time. Its probably on the verge of an addiction.

Nowt wrong with having a hobby mate, I never buy them personally, but was mad for £4! There’s heaps of them on there totally random as well, mainly Euro teams but a few South American as well.

They get some ****e on there but sometimes some mad stuff, it’s just catching the stock as it’s very limited.

Sounds worth it. The other thing I do is trawl charity shops (I travel around a bit for work so don't have to go in my local ones!!) to see what they've got. I've got a 1981-83 Chelsea top (original, not recent reproduction) that's worth about £200 now. Bought it for a fiver. I saw a fella on Twitter found a Meyba brand 1980s Barcelona top in a charity shop- they're worth about £300. I don't sell the things on, I just like knowing they're rare.

Bloody hell, it's all coming out now <laugh>
