So how do you go about it?

Just write '**** off ****s'?

Or is there more to it, or do do just just go in with a piece of paper, scrumple it up and throw it at them?

Just what do you put in one?

You might in the future be relying on your current employer for a reference, so it's always favourable to leave on good terms. Just say something like...

Please accept this letter as my notice/formal resignation/ or I would like to inform you....blah blah, effective from one month/one week and date. Thank you for/ or I appreciate.....blah blah

Indeed. As much as you’d like to write “**** all of you ****s” you may need them to say nice stuff about you in future. It sucks but it’s the way it is.

So a polite '**** you' letter?

I’ve always kept it short and sweet, pretty much as brb suggested.

The shortest and sweetest was probably when I asked a nightshift foreman at Safeway’s to let me out via the loading bays, halfway through my shift. When he said he couldn’t open up until the morning, I told him I could probably climb out the toilet windows anyway, but it was down to him if I had to smash one - and if I smashed one I might as well put em all through.

He let me out, and I didn’t go back to them for a reference. Jobs were easier to come by back then though.

A polite letter yes, a fook you, no. You don't even need to mention your reasoning in the letter. Just keep it brief and to the points I stated above. There is no need for it to be more than two or three sentences.
it's gonna be weird, as my shift manager is keeping out of it. me and her have been mates for 21 years (maybe why i got took on full time fairly instant)

I'm actually thinking about giving it to her only,

Comm, once you've left, got a new job secured and reference has been received by new employer, you can send a "**** you" letter <laugh>

Actually for a laugh we could turn this thread into the angry resignation letter examples:

Dear kunt chops,

I'm outta here to do my hoying else where, see yer later you bunch of mother fookers. So stick this letter up yer arse and I know who damaged your truck but i aint no grass, so fook off and die.

Comm the happy sausage muncher.
