Nah mate.

If a kid was actually willing to listen... and actually really listen you've got to be able to explain that being a pro is about delivering your commitments and not expecting any favours. A por can through absolutely no fault of his be turfed out by a manager change. You can't take it personally. its just business all round.

Don't fall for club loyalty etc

If you've a 10-12 year career to manage then taking the big bucks in years 1 to 3 may not be the best return over the longer term. The same story with say alli and kane at spurs, resigning a new long term deal every season sounds great but you've handed levy total control.

My view is sign the best deal for your long term career. Thats not the biggest pay cheque, nor should it be the smallest pay cheque. Its about the development to put yourself in the position of 23/24 to get a the deal with all the trimmings to get you to 28 where you get another big long deal as a man at your peak.... and from then on it 32/33 and one year deals.

If you are 18, a 5 year deal is ok but how do you maximise your changes of being 23 and having he pick of top club.. if you are that good.

my example:

Delle alli signed a 6 year deal with spurs in 2018.... apparently for 150k per week but we will see. It could be the case given kanes deal. he signed that deal at 22.

Now.... i've no real issue with that if its the top of his earning bracket but he handed spurs and levy total control of his career for the best years of his career... he also promptly nose dived in form and fitness etc (but thats another tale)

If he'd signed a 4 year deal for whatever. 120k. thats a lot of earning lost but at 26 he could have moved on a free and absoltuely killed it somewhere for 4/5 years and made that 30k per week back and then some.

Was messing about.

On a serious note, if you want first team football you wouldn't move to a big club as realistically no youth player is going to get the opportunity for a run of games unless they get lucky through injuries or the team is hard up for cash and cant buy replacements.

If they are smart they might have a plan of joining a big club and having a plan in place of how to progress but nowadays most players are going out on loan for their first team experience if they are at a large club.

Depends what you call big mate.

dortmund are "big" par se but sancho got his games.

Some clubs are better than others.

however right now this discussion is probably all moot as super agents decides who gets to go where and which clubs get to buy cos they can cut off clubs as well.

Its something that will have the be clamped down on but its prob going to need jail time from EU rather than fifa doing anything.

Thata true although i caveated that with clubs have will have the spending power. Dortmund wont fit the bill for that but you are correct they are a big side and always play plenty of youth.

I've never made career decisions based solely on earnings potential. I'm constantly baffled by the repeated assertions of some that money is the sole criterion by which everybody lives their life. It seems that as that may be the case for they themselves they cannot imagine anyone seeing things differently.
Top footballers are set for life anyway, regardless of which big club they choose.
Couldn't agree more.

The younger generation eh :emoticon-0138-think

Moving to a big club isn't necessarily a bad move, it depends which big club it is. Some have a reputation for developing youngsters such as Dortmund or Ajax

Alberto Moreno has left Liverpool with a touching message to the club and its supporters.

“Life goes in cycles, and mine at my beloved Liverpool FC has drawn to an end,” he told his 1.3 million Instagram followers.

“Upon reaching this point, I would like to thank my entire Liverpool family: my dear team-mates, with whom I have shared five marvellous years and who I will forever think as family.

“And, of course, the owners, directors, coaching staff, doctors, kitmen, and each and every person at the club.

“Thank you for making me a better footballer and, above all, a better person; for helping me to fulfil one of my childhood dreams by winning the Champions League.

“And, in doing so, to become a small part of the history of this great club.

“My gratitude too to the city, which embraced me as one of its own from day one and which will live on in my memory whenever I look at my son, Alberto Jr., a Liverpudlian himself.

“Finally, a very special thank you to the club’s superb fans, who always supported me.

“I wish you all at Liverpool FC the greatest successes.

“Wherever life takes me from here, I will always carry you in my heart and forever be a fan. You’ll Never Walk Alone!”

Manchester United have moved ahead of their rivals Manchester City in the pursuit of Harry Maguire, after upping their bid to £70m for the Leicester and England defender, Sky Sports News has been told.
Maguire - along with all of the club's other international players - was not in the group who returned to begin Leicester's pre-season training schedule on Monday at their Belvoir Drive training complex.
It is not yet known if the England defender will join his team-mates on Sunday when they head to Évian-les-Bains for six days of training in the French Alps.
