One of Corbyn's closest friends and a member of the NEC caught out giving his far-fetched anti-Semitic views. Ever wonder why Labour can't reach 20% in the polls?...

Not a Brexiter but the break up of the UK, and other nation states, would be fine by me. The smaller the administrative unit the better.

A united Ireland would be a big step forward (and is probably the only way Brexit can work).

The monarchy is not the root of the problem though, is it M? It’s just a symptom. Get rid of the monarchy, and the Lords and the Commons at the same time.
As a stepping stone you're probably right. But the new radical me feels that if democracy consists of casting a vote for a political party/candidate once very few years, based on a fixed slate of policies which may not be implemented, or may not be relevant a few months later, with no further direct consultation, it is a very limited form of democracy. You are essentially giving decision making rights over big elements of your life to someone you have never met, based on very little information. Even worse if the one you voted for didn’t get in. And any more involving and direct form is simply too cumbersome for a whole country and eventually plays into the hands of the highly motivated, and usually slightly extreme, fanatics of all creeds. I don’t want endless national binary referenda. Makes more sense to build democracy around natural affinities, where we have a real and immediate stake - workplaces, communities, trades. Which then cooperate with each other through free association/federation, no hierarchies. A bit more demanding on the citizen, but hugely more rewarding.

A pipe dream, I know. But a fun dream which puts a lot of the current **** into perspective. Innit comrade?

G you are truly enlightened mate, I wish I could put down my thoughts into words like you do ‘cos they are my thoughts and aspirations totally.
You are a true anarchist who is finally seeing the dream that we can all achieve if really want to (well probably not)......but at least we can dream :)

I feel dirty now for taking part in their sham democracy last week, even though it was more symbolic than anything.....I apologise.

People like her created the exact conditions for Trump to be elected. He’s a symptom, not the disease.

It’s taken me over 40 years to get back to where I started mate. Feels good though. Even old, nearly blind, leopards can change their spots.

    No, still not getting it.

I can empathise with your frustration at the current system, but just don't understand what you want to replace it with.

    My bad.

Well, I’m not trying to convert anyone. I’m not trying to give a precise picture of a potential future, that would rather defeat the point of collective liberty. The core objective is to give people the opportunity to be fully engaged in their own lives, through self managed, self governed groups/societies which reject hierarchies. There is no fixed body of doctrine (which I find deeply attractive), it’s not a rigid ideology, but rejection of hierarchy implies rejection of capitalism and ‘the state’. Loads of good articles on Wiki about anarchism, anarcho-syndicalism and Spanish anarchism if you are really interested. A lot of the thinking is bollocks of course.

I'd like to see more state, rather than none at all. The Nordic countries seem to do pretty well with more state provision, and are ranked the happiest in the world.

Well good luck with that. I’m in pure fantasy land, but I have to say I feel much happier looking at current events from my new, unactionable, perspective.

For the first time for ages I’m watching Channel 4 news while cooking dinner and preloading on wine before the game. It really is the Guardian on telly, hugely and unashamedly biased and snarky, and Jon Snow isn’t even on tonight. Given that it’s a public sector broadcaster I don’t think that’s acceptable. Where the **** is the state when you need it?

My wish isn't unattainable though, is it? A Labour government implementing their 2017 manifesto would do for now.

The horror. A great big state in the name of the people, but in fact serving the party and inflexible ideology just like every other serious socialist government. You’d be better off with a soft left social democratic government.

Besides, I said I was happier with my new, unrealistic perspective. Why would you wish to deny me this simple pleasure, especially as I’m not going to do anything to make it happen?

I don't wish to deny you your pleasure at all.

Have you thought about buying a motorbike?
