For ****'s sake Kiwi, the **** you've posted in the last day or two is even more pathetic than usual. Go and have a lie down
There are THREE reasons for immigration to the UKand the third ona was taxation. Thatcher ‘s big bang and many associated loopholes allowed most foreigners (including most of the 300k French) to pay an average of 15% for many years despite astronomical wages/bonuses. Assuming Brexit allows for greater flexibility and the government decides to use it to boost the City and entice other high earners back, is it not a contradiction that the less wealthy part of the UK voted to potentially restore such huge discrepancies ? Can’t find an answer.
UK exposed as ‘world’s greatest enabler of corporate tax avoidance’. Another reason, for some, to get out of the EU asap. https://www.thecanary.co/trending/2...5jHSc2e8PxOmO6yJfYuu5aOVzUzdDKVaW7ZeAEw0WMkPA
500 billion is that all us companys avoid more than that on their own ireland seems a good place to do your taxes How U.S. companies are avoiding $695 billion in taxes U.S. companies stashed another $200 billion in profits overseas last year, escaping billions in taxes, and escalating a battle with Congress over the country’s complex tax code. The amount of unrepatriated foreign profits reached $2.4 trillion, according to Citizens for Tax Justice, allowing companies to avoid up to $695 billion in taxes. The total for foreign profits is up from $2.2 trillion the previous year, according to the advocacy group which reviewed the Securities and Exchange Commission filings of Fortune 500 companies. Apple, Microsoft and Pfizer increased their stockpile of overseas profits the most. The report highlights what has become a growing frustration for Congress: U.S. companies have refused to bring the profits they earn overseas back home where they face the highest tax rate in the developed world, 35 percent. Instead, hundreds of companies simply leave the funds overseas. Some are waiting for Congress to lower the rate, or hoping for a window of amnesty. But others are pursuing “inversions” in which they buy or merge with a smaller foreign company and move their headquarters overseas where they will be taxed less and can gain access to their unrepatriated foreign profits. Lawmakers and the Obama administration have struggled to come up with a solution. In his latest budget proposal, President Obama calls for imposing an 19 percent tax on foreign profits — significantly lower than the current rate. But there is little political momentum to address the issue during the 2016 presidential election cycle and Republicans and Democrats remain split on an approach. “Stashing money offshore to avoid U.S. taxes is hardly a victimless crime,” said Bob McIntyre, director of Citizens for Tax Justice. “Every dollar shifted to an offshore tax haven means less federal revenue to pay for the infrastructure, education and other public services that help our economy grow.” Business leaders have said that companies have few choices as long as the corporate tax rate remains high. Many have called for broad tax reform. In the meantime, companies’ unrepatriated income is widely expected to continue to grow. Last year, Apple’s unrepatriated profits reached $200 billion, up from $157 billion in 2014 and $111 billion in 2013, according to the report. Microsoft’s overseas profits stockpile reached $108 billion last year, according to Citizens for Tax Justice. Pfizer’s unrepatriated income reached $193 billion last year compared with $175 billion the previous year. The company announced last November that it would merge with Botox-maker Allergan and move its headquarters to Ireland. The deal is expected to lower Pfizer’s corporate tax rate to 17 or 18 percent, compared with its current effective 25 percent rate. But it would also make it easier for the pharmaceutical giant to gain access to its overseas profits and could help it save about $35 billion in taxes. [Giving up its U.S. citizenship could save Pfizer $35 billion in taxes] Wisconsin manufacturer Johnson Controls announced last month that it would merge with Tyco International and also move its headquarters to Ireland. That is expected to save the company $150 million a year in taxes and make it easier for it to access $8 billion in unrepatriated income. please log in to view this image
Old news Kiwi, this is from when Obama was President. Trump actually did change the tax system, a lot of this cash was repatriated to the US and a much lower rate of tax paid on it, and the companies have reinvested a lot of it too, contributing to the very healthy US economy and very high employment rates across all groups in the population. The economy is the reason Trump will be re-elected with ease, despite all the horrible things he does and says. Of course a side effect is that the ultra wealthy have got even richer and the wealth divide got even wider, just like here with our low tax regime.
It might be old news Stan but I bet the US companies have found new ways to avoid tax saving even more money
Agree and about time in this world the U.K. sovereignty people realised this once and forever imo... the bloody reason that people think the U.K. is in a strong economic position is purely because of the fact that tax avoidance has been encouraged and welcomed by U.K. governance for decades ... any calls for the large corporations to start paying into a new system will in effect kill everything that the U.K. has become London has become a global hub exactly for that reason ... financial products run the whole thing The very reason MOST now have post Brexit options in place is purely because they will go where they can make the most money ... If the Euro continues to strengthen and the pound weaken then we are taking £ billions each and every working day If Brexiteers fully understood this instead of saying project fear every 5 seconds they would soon see the monster that cannot be unmade ... couple that with a deeply self obsessed society and culture then it’s good night all the political circus is just that a comical sideshow imo
Of course they have Kiwi any modern business will invest more money into tax avoidance than any other stream ... Afterall they hold the power and skill sets ... anyone who thinks this is not true is naive... Smart people work for business failed business people work inside governance it’s that easy
A YouGov poll out today on GE voting intention has Lib Dems ahead on 24%, with Brexit on 22% and both Tories and Labour on 19%. Interesting times.
Great! Mark Harper has joined the race to become your new Prime Minister! I’m sure he’s brilliant but unfortunately I’ve never heard of him before today. But don’t let that put you off Mark! I’m certain you stand for something truly remarkable. Forgive me if I can’t be arsed to find out what it might be,
Crikey! If you add the Tory & Labour percentages together, that makes 38%. As it’s a Friday, one should add an arbitrary 20%, plus the 16% not voting for any of the four. This gives a total of 74%. It being nearly June, if you assume 2/3rd want to remain, that’s roughly 50%. Add that to the LibDem’s 24%, that’s a massive 74% in favour of Remain. Of course, by the time of a General Election in (say) October, half the Brexit supporters will have died of old age and will have been replaced by a similar percentage of new voters, all of whom wish to remain in the EU. That’s now 85% in favour of Remain. Of the remaining 11% of Brexit supporters, 5% will be soaking in their own piss on voting day, so unable to make it to the polling station, whereas the balance of 6% will be too thick to vote, in prison for racism offences or now sufficiently educated to have seen the error of their ways. I predict a rough 75% turnout on Election Day and 100% support in the ballot for remaining in the EU. Farage to be hanged for treason on the Friday morning.
One question I would like to ask of the Brexiteers on here. If you believe in self rule, and winning back sovereignty then you must also grant the Scots the right to think the same way about membership of the UK. If Scotland breaks away then Welsh nationalism would, in time, be difficult to avoid. Are you ready for an independent England ? Because that is what we are stumbling towards - something which has not really existed since the time of Athelstan, and between giving up all French claims and uniting with Scotland in the middle ages - because those are the only times England has really stood alone. Does England have a collective identity, independent of that of the UK ? Or a collective narrative - can the history of the Levellers, Tolpuddle Martyrs, Mary Wolstencraft, Tom Paine etc. be reconciled with that of monarchy, generals and imperialism. In order to strive after independence you need an idea of 'them' and 'us' - the Brexiteers are certain of the former ie. Brussels bureaucrats and immigrants - but not so sure of the second part. Could the Monarchy (our most European of all institutions) survive such a split ?
Surely we can’t count the Brexit Party votes anyway as they were lumped in as part of others! (And they cheated in the EU elections & will cheat in a General election too because of the Russians/dodgy finances/other voters being too young/ Brexit voters being too old/being racists/and a whole raft of new reasons not yet thought of)
