To be fair Chris has proven to be a good manager in the Championship, so that wouldn't be a bad appointment.
Even the small percentage of rumors that are true often don't pan out. Wasn't it Gayle we missed out on on the last day because of an injury to player at a third club?
Championship clubs made combined operating loss of more than £510m last year. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...-clubs-combined-operating-loss-510m-year.html
I think he worked with him before in the U21's. He used to really shine in the U21's so Southgate might have a rosier view than most about him. Undeniably a very talented player, but can anyone ever get a good work ethic and consistency out of him? As an impact sub he might have some possibility as an option. He's no Emi, but he ain't English! Bah!
He will be chopped out when Southgate has to name the final 23 players. I guess he feels he has got options at attacking midfield that are ahead of Maddison and it would therefore be better for him to get games with the u21s if they have matches over that period? Even so, Maddison was one of, if not the, top scoring and assisting English midfielders in the league, so incredibly frustrating for him! Especially when you consider there are some very similar players together in the squad, he would offer something different.
Maddison not in contention for the England squad is crazy, but maybe he just doesn't play for a fashionable club!
IMO, it is absolutely ridiculous in the extreme that Redders – he is in the squad ahead of JM – he is a FAR better/skilful player and I don’t believe that Southampton is a more fashionable club than Leicester!!
On the basis that Redmond and Maddison have long since moved on from the club, and we've gone from strength to strength since they left, I really fail to grasp what all this fuss is about? So what?

I think this one has to be explained by the system England are playing. Since the World Cup, Southgate has England playing a 4-3-3 with 2 box-to-box CMs, and wingers. Maddison is much more a #10 than the likes of Winks, Delph, Barkley and Alli - who have been favoured in those CM roles by England recently. For the majority of this season, Leicester played 4-2-3-1 and Maddison thrived in the same role he had at Norwich. It's a shame for him that that role doesn't exist in the England side at the moment. That said, under Brendan Rodgers you can see Leicester experimenting with a 4-1-4-1/4-3-3 formation, in which Maddison and Tielemans play a deeper, more box-to-box role. Maddison has looked very good in that role, but hasn't got significant experience of it yet. If England and Leicester keep playing the same way, I've no doubt he'll play his way into the England starting XI before the end of next season. Redmond is an easier one - how many English wingers are there right now? Southgate has used Sterling, Rashford out wide (when he's better through the middle), Sancho, Lingard, Hudson-Odoi, and that's really it. There haven't been any other wingers in the England squad since the WC, I'm not even sure of another English, Premier League wide player who is being overlooked? Redmond has timed his run of form well, Hudson-Odoi is out injured, and there's few other options.
