This is one of the most iconic buildings in the world and it is being destroyed as we speak - how on earth can you joke about this?????????????????????
Total over reaction alert. It’s a building - just a building (yes it’s iconic) but it will be rebuilt. All the artwork and the rose window were all saved. No human life was lost which would have been the real tragedy here. There’s a seriously ill fireman that’s a more important issue than the fire damage. The Cathedral building will be rebuilt and stand for another 1,000 years as a Landmark on the Paris skyline and it now has a new story to tell. Bricks/Mortar/Spires can all be replaced - human life however can’t. You would barely recognise there was a fire at York Minster 35 years ago that was also very destructive. Perspective. Pinault has already pledged €100m to the rebuild costs.
I always feel it is tragic when an old building gets damaged in this way. I guess it will be repaired but never quite the same again somehow.
Knowing the French they'll see the disaster as a way to update the building and improve the aesthetic by rebuilding it with a glass roof or some such. Thankfully no one died, though I do understand a fireman was injured. Here's to a speedy recovery.
Well my post went some way to justify why the burning of the cathedral is indeed very funny. And why it’s a shame there’s more of it left than a smouldering pile of rubble.
It took architects, stonemasons, carpenters, stained glass makers, craftsmen of all sorts, skilled workers, unskilled workers etc two hundred years to complete it..... yes, it also has a spiritual element to it, but I doubt that any people of any denomination or agnostic or atheist would find it "very funny" & a "shame there's more of it left than a smouldering pile of rubble."
It's a great shame to see any building ravaged by fire but let's put some perspective on this,no one was killed and it can be repaired(it was already being repaired as it was literally crumbling anyway)!!! As usual there seems to be a press frenzy and a massive outpouring of 'grief' and Macron is looking for contributions to rebuild.....I for one hope that Teresa May isn't tempted to throw 'our' money at Macron....After all that little weasel has said and done against us recently!!!
