So only on promotions & finals? Personally I feel survival from relagation just as important (maybe more) & exciting (in a perverse way). All to their own tho.

Fair comment! If relegtion is avoided, and I am optimistic, then the points target for next season needs to be 60 points. SFC ,bar Everton, is the most experienced side, along with West Ham, in the PL second tier. There is no excuse for another strugge next season. As for this, I hope for final total of around 42 points.

It was achieved with ease under Koeman. No good setting 40 points, as that indicates a wish for survival. 60 points mean the club is after a default EL spot.

Does it make any difference what target you set? Has no effect on what actually happens.

Depends if the target is realistic or not, and what plans you have to achieve it.

Without investment in the summer we might plan to be safe by January, then go from there.

My target for the summer is fairly simple (without wishing to jump the gun, we have not finished yet), get all of the fringe big earners off the books so Ralph's day job becomes easier and more enjoyable.

    Forster
    Cedric
    Hoedt
    Clasie
    Mo El
    Chaz

for starters should save a large wodge...

still not convinced that Mario is in Ralph's plans, but we'll wait and see on that.

I'd stick with Mario (& Boufal) unless a big off drops.
I'd also add Long & Sam to your list.

I think that Shane offers something different to the overall squad, whereas Mario is an expensive luxury in an area that we are pretty well stocked.

To keep Shane, is to carry on a lack of ambition.
    He has to go.

Don't keep him as a starter, but he has the ability to change a match when it becomes stretched.

If we are going on contribution this season I would argue that Shane has added more value to the team than Mario has.

Not talking goals but he has contributed to the team running the channels tirelessly.

I think Mario has a mental issue. I don't think he has settled, I don't think he enjoys it here at all. But, there's a player in there, and we either get that on the pitch or recoup some dosh.
Shane offers very little now. He has regressed so much over the last few months, and now injuries and age are creeping up on him. We'll be lucky to shift he for nowt. Sadly.

I just don't think he fits English football or our team very well, but maybe Ralph will give him a chance to prove me wrong.

Yeah, its all guess work. But I remember him doing a 10/10 at Palace in Roys first game in charge, and thinking we had someone very special on our hands. Such a shame it hasn't worked out.
