Overtaking a tractor, parking on a single yellow to grab a newspaper, doing more than 70 mph on the motorway. EU Big Brother can **** off from my perspective.

Yes, drink drive thing is fine for offenders.

I don't think the speed limiter is a given in the UK. With sat nav surveillance, government will be able to trace all movements. Civil liberties will be on to this

What if we do leave the EU but adopt this technology anyway? As, of course, we will. UK big brother can **** off too?

If you are a libertarian it really doesn’t matter which government you are against.

Not at all. They are gagging for our money. They want somewhere they can flee to avoid the 4th Reich. They like the fact that we have no corrupt politicians. And they so enjoy arguing with us on every important bit of legislation as we insist on having a veto or opt out. They also cannot wait for us to go back in demanding reform. They are breathless at the thought of welcoming Nigel and his merry band back so that they can chuck all that money his way again. What reason could they possibly have to be horrible to us? Then in a few years time we can go through all this again.

Civil liberty has had its day. People have woken up to the fact that civil liberties go hand in hand with civil responsibilities and that you are not entitled to exercise your own civil liberties without paying a price now for harming others who are affected by your behaviour.

I read the ECJ might have a problem with that. The legal case that won Revoke ruled something like the UK can revoke Article 50 unilaterally permanently, or intended permanently.

Actually would disagree with this is if Goldie’s post is true. Without having bothered to read into it, I’m guessing it’s not.

So Mogg has changed his mind.

Maybe 'The People' have changed theirs too.

Seems like Boris has as well. Does that mean someone somewhere will send them death threats or have those people changed their minds as well?

Article 13 still needs to be voted on right? It's just been passed going into a vote.

Also they have deliberately put a caveat in for memes and gifs

It depends on the technology. Something that limits speed in a 30 but can be overridden in emergency by a kick of the accelerator would probably be ok. One problem going forward is the more Big Brother comes into the car to take control, the more drivers will become complacent and expect government through sat nav to take driving decisions.

The balance between rights and responsibilities is, as you say, critical. But do we really want to be forced to have gear in the car that reports to government each time we creep over 70mph on a motorway and a computer sends us a summons for 3 points and a fine?

It’s true, but the UK government will also adopt the standards post Brexit, so it’s not a valid anti EU argument. If the objection is a libertarian one, well that’s an argument that can be had, but would logically take you to abandoning gun control. If the argument is about government tracking where you are, it’s been lost already for anyone with a mobile phone.
OK, if the argument is on practical grounds I’m happy to agree that there are lots of things that need to be crystal clear about how this works. But, with ‘driverless’ cars all this is coming anyway. And while it might be an argument against government in general, it’s not an argument specifically against the EU.

I'm not necessarily using it to knock the EU - more the policy generally. The problem is, you have driverless cars or you have drivers taking responsibility for their driving. A hybrid of the two could be dangerous imo.

    Latest from Tusk

"Appeal to EP: You should be open to a long extension, if the UK wishes to rethink its strategy. 6 million people signed the petition, 1 million marched. They may not feel sufficiently represented by UK Parliament but they must feel represented by you. Because they are Europeans."

He just can't butt out of our business.

The override is apparently only for the first few years
Then it will be taken away and you get to see the backs of caravans thereafter
Whatever the British agency that controls this has agreed to go along with the Eu already

Doesn't matter whether it does. Brexit is a sovereign issue of a country that has lasted a lot longer than the EU or Mr Tusk. His interference and his jibes about sending Brexit leaders to hell etc just harden attitudes against the EU from those that want to leave. It's counter-productive
