You say goalscorers carry games, then I say their team carry the goalscorers. His goals tonight all came from the fullbacks, superb crosses or runs. Ronaldo will grab the headlines as the hattrick hero (I'm not questioning his ability as probably the best goalscorer of all time, that much is obvious) but my argument is more that those around him were outstanding and laid the table for him. I look for more in a player's value to the team than just how many goals he scores. It's why I prefer Messi over Ronaldo by a country mile. Full backs were the stars tonight. Ronaldo feasted on what they provided the entire game - plus their defensive contributions too. I appreciate him for his goals and his desire to be the best. I appreciate other things more.
Teams carry goalscorers? It's funny how much of a drop Real have seen since Ronaldo left then, isn't it. You'd think they'd be relieved to have 11 men instead of having to carry him. Not saying its all down to him but he's a huge reason for their pathetic defence of the CL. The thing is I understand your reasoning and maybe if he was Jermain Defoe or someone of that ilk I would tend to agree with you but Ronaldo is a different breed of goalscorer. He's probably the best goalscorer to ever play the game, to say that he is carried by his teams is pretty insulting to his contributions to his various teams over the years.
absolutely, his game has changed a lot to a sort of winger goalhanger as he doesnt have the pace and burst that he once had, but he can still do it all, hold up play, finish and with great movement. Where he lacks messis passing finesse and vision, he more than makes up for it by allowing players to just chuck crosses in because he's great at heading the ball and has a great leap. This was atletico they just took apart and a big reason for that (even though madrid pack the box) is because ronaldo dominated them in the air. Still a nob though
As a last resort to get it through some thick skulls that bullshit stats and made up things like XG (which people like you lap up) are not real life.
Yep. Hate him as a person but he is a class footballer and to act as if he only played a minor part in tonight's victory is a bit far-fetched.
Best player the CL has ever seen. He has 5 of them, he should have his own CL trophy and has a chance for a 6th this year. Changed his game from Winger to all round attacker and can score all types of goals. You may not like his projected arrogance, but he is some player. (I loved it when P Neville chopped him in half at Goodison)
no if he just made the case logically for Ronaldo rather than say football was invented in the 1990s he's only bitter
