Like minds ! I watched this on Monday
Love looking at Di Canio's reactions, like an excitable child. If he wasnt quite as mad as a balloon and the players werent soft as ****e I would have loved to see how he couldve gotten on in the long run. Also find it difficult to watch considering Johnson played a major part though. Horrible twat that he is.
He is, but doesn’t change how important he was as a footballer.
He won us a massive amount of points.

Paolo di Canio loves football. I think he loved us too. If only things had worked out for him. Imagine having a manager with that much passion in charge over the long term. He could have been our Simeone.

Loved PDC. Barely got a chance but was spot on in his assessment of our rot and wasn't going to take **** sorting it. Fan and player power did him a kipper.

I think the majority of fans knew the problem was the players. They also knew that we couldnt sack the players, unfortunately. I would have loved, out of interest, to have seen him have a crack at us in our situation now.
Always comes back to the same thing with Di Canio.
He had the right ideas for sure, his execution was lacking though unfortunately in todays game.

At the time I think I wanted rid of him cos it obviously couldnt have carried on like that. Manager loses the dressing room, thats it. However in hindsight, with what has happened since, I wish we just kept him, got relegated and sold all the players who didnt want to play for him. Me personally, from the outside looking in, would loved to have played for a bloke like that. Try my bloody pods off to impress him. But I'm not a modern day footballer, unfortunately.
I remember reading an interview by a Swindon player who said he was nuts. He was instructing the team on how to do sliding tackles by demonstrating it on a carpet against a set of collapsible chairs. Proper clattering into them he was. Who wouldnt want to work for a bloke like that?
PDC was spot on with what was wrong here, what a character, and as honest as the day is long, not enough like him in football unfortunately.

All I want is club to be proud of. To have players playing for the shirt, owners who care and an emphasis on community relations. We have all that now.

Dont think so. He would make a cracking youth coach I would have thought. Crack some skulls at an early age, install the passion and hard work into them but treat them with a bit more 'arm round the shoulder' than he would a full team member.
Too much of a loose cannon for me, and the fact that he's been out of work for years seems to support this.
We saw the touchline antics for a couple of hours a week. The players saw the whole thing and it didn't work. Apparently (according to Bardo on the RR podcast) he banned Craig Russell from being near the first team coz he was too happy
I will always be grateful for what he did for us, and I know we had a lethargic group of players who were more interested in money, status and boozing than they were in playing, but ripping in to certain individuals etc ain't the best way to get players performing
Everybody knows my feelings off the bloke loved him then and love him now love see what he could do with this bunch of players who actually want to win I reckon there would be some exciting times ah
i agree with Paulo what the f uck did Craig have to be happy about watching that ****e he should of been as angry as f uck like the rest of us and telling them your f ucking **** pull your socks up or f uck off you set of over paid tossers other than that smile away

Paolo went as he was aggressive in his talk and never got a sit down with Ellis, who as always took advice from within. Terrible advice.
Paolo handled it far too aggressively but got and understood the issue.
Was he a good gaffer? No idea. Was he pushed out by the standard fan bias and the lack of any form of leadership within the club too to bottom at the time? Absolutely.
I’ve no real opinion in the Di Canio era, I touted him all over here as the pick but was surprised when he got it, I was confused but not surprised when he got fired, but did we do better? Move forward? Well did we **** we are 2 leagues down.
He had the right ideas but the wrong track, I’ll remember the knee slides and such. I liked the fella. Until this season we’ve been wall to wall cowards and bullshit since (bar Sam). The big losers, as standard, right or wrong, we’re SAFC.
I will have a deep disdain for Ellis Short and his lack of foresight until the day I die.
