We are only a possession based team when sides retreat and let us have it <ok>

we don't set out to have 70% possession like city do. We still try to counter and press. its not easy do it when sides park 10 or even 11 behind ball.

One might argue salah is not a possession based team ideal... pep didn't want aguero originally due to thinking aguero was similar.

Firmino is too loose with the ball as well to suit such a game...

Wijnaludm is suited to it, fabinho is too. Keita... maybe, takes a few risks but we will see.

My view is timo werner would have to up his levels over a year to be able to stick the pace of the prem never mind the cbs being able to assault you with relative impunity

Most of the teams we face sit deep. It’s only the big sides that will be more expansive.

And we play more smaller teams than big teams.

Sadio Mane on Timo Werner: “I’d advise him to join Liverpool. I like his style of play. Very forceful, good finish, always giving it 100 percent. If he wants to join us, we’d welcome him to our team."

Apparently Juve want Salah for 175m <laugh>

Cos throwing 400k a week at Ramsay wasn’t enough

Yes cos there's literally 4 good sides in the league.

Leicester were praised for their performance against us.

yet it was a sloppy foul and poor clearance from free that gifted them their goal.

should have been routine 1-0.

palace sat 11 men back and it was Matip 3 yards behind line that gifted them a break away goal.

these are really **** teams.

we are into the big switch play to full back, getting in behind wide and cut back but it's not easy if we have the wrong players playing... e.g. shaqirir starting. all he does is got 10 yards or 20 yards ahead of ball and hang about when you really want him dropping in and making play. he kills firmino available space then.

we have tactics for each type of opposition and each type of situation in game.

my view would be that when we get a lead we actually give the ball away too much. we try to play from back to front and lose the ball or try a flick rather than be controlled at times. this is the maturity klopp hints at.

1-0 up should be lfc win. we had that with gomez and windy and taa in team. we can have it with fabinho but when lads who just lose it too.muxh are in we give sides too.much encouragement.

Isn't VAR coming in next season? That might stop cbs assaulting Werner with impunity (or anyone else).

Yes but it only looks at red cards, goals and pen shouts.

if a cb wants to tip.you in a challenge or elbow toy are just plain push you over then head a ball clear they can still do so.

i was listening last night to Utd game and there was a hand brushed off a psg player by rashford? psg player dropped and it was foul and commentator was whining about it.

watch English league and if you see a long ball very often you'll see cb push the forward before ball.comes down then head it and nothing is said.

I still can't remember what team Pogba tried to break a guys leg then turn the assult into a cruyff turn style thing to disguise it. he didn't get away with that last night. he threw himself down after assaulting that psg lad.

English league is just different.

We dominate possession in the vast majority of games we play - between 65% and 75% in most. It's been that way for years, and the problem was converting that dominance into wins. The high press is employed exactly for the purpose of regaining possession as quickly as possible, so I would say we do set out with that in mind.
I agree that Salah is the odd man out in that respect, but we have to have variation, and obviously the counter has been devastating at times - especially last season.
I don't know much about Werner, so have no opinion on whether or not he'd suit us.

Id say mane is the same however they both do link up. I felt with Firmino in small tight areas so they can do that job in possession against packed defences. Just obviously more deadly against a high line like arsenal or Chelsea

my opinion is merely that sides sit deep and surrender that possession to deliberately give us that.

deep and narrow = no space.

our press looks best v better sides as there's more space to counter in.

catch a guy with back to play a bit wide with no out ball and sprint at him and win it... turn over. paly ball in, chance, goal.

Agreed on that and it may have been why there were 10 yellows (Pogba being 2) last night in a niggly but not obviously dirty game.
I assume (hope) though that the presence of VAR will make all players not just centre backs wary of the little pushes, elbows, coming togethers that stop opponents illegaly without being called fouls.

The ref was giving a yellow for a proper foul and a yellow for nothings. He wanted a low contact game so if you did anything to make a contact to a player to nudge them etc he was giving a free.

Once the players got it they stopped fouling cos the next one they were off and game became a passing game. In effect he nullified the english style and made it tough.

IF LFC get a ref like this v bayern it could be VERY difficult.
