Sam Clucas opens up on why he left Hull City and that accusation he refused to play The midfielder, who spent two years with the Tigers, returns with Stoke City tomorrow https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/football/swansea-sam-clucas-hull-return-2497254
It confirms what we kinda already know about players not wanting to be the last one left behind when everybody started departing. They all liked being here and liked being together but upstairs thought of the £££s. He said the trip to Portugal is what changed it. Everybody started departing from there on. Looking at what we had - and we’ll admit some of the players were always too good for us and would move on - it shows how much Ehab has messed up in the sales of Bruce’s squad. Accepting offers that were too low, offering appalling wages to get them to “stay” etc. The amount of players that come out to blaming our owners’ handling of their situation only increases - Huddlestone, Clucas, Tymon, Clark, Jak Etc. I hope Clucas isn’t booed tomorrow. I don’t blame any of them for leaving. Loads of our fans (not blaming them) don’t want to go to the games - not sure how they can blame the players for getting out too.
Clearly a really nice kid, grounded and not a mercenary, but people were so quick to turn on him, like they always are nowadays when players leave us. It's really embarrassing this hatred of everyone who chooses to get out of the club. Leeds fans used to be like that a few years ago and we always laughed at them. I can't put my finger on it but there was always something unconvincing about Slutsky to me. Almost like he didn't know what he was saying half the time. This ridiculous mixup makes me think even more that he was just not good enough; not in a football sense but culturally and communication wise. He was just the stereotypical baffled foreign manager at a struggling club.
I don't remember people turning on him, did they? Thinktheres a lot of spin there from Sam, some from the club and some poor hdm journalism
I have to say I don’t remember anyone turning on Clucas. I liked him as a player and defended him regularly. He’s a great example to any aspiring professional that gets knocked back. He has done it the hard way and deserves the plaudits.
I was warming to that interview and thought he came across really well , until he started showing off about Debenhams , unnecessary .
@Cortez91 “Accepting offers that were too low, offering appalling wages to get them to “stay” etc.” The bit in the interview said he was offered similar wages Swansea offered him. As part of a £16.5m deal I can’t imagine they were appalling, that bit really surprised me and flies in the face of everything we think we know. Players all obviously just want out, but maybe the wages offered such as the ‘very good deal’ Adkins said we’d offered Hernandez weren’t as bad as we all thought. Question is if that money was available to get people to stay why wasn’t it available for replacements when they left?
I’m not into booing I didn’t boo Moses...but I had no problem with those that did. That’s life as a highly paid player...I’d put up with it. Anything, legal, to put opposition players off is fair enough I think, a rapturous round of ‘City reject’ or ‘too **** for the premier league...too **** for the premier league’ for example
I echo what everybody else is saying as I can't remember people being pissed off at Clucas leaving. I sometimes forget that the reaction on here is often the total opposite of fans on social media.
I saw a white Lamborghini ( I aren't a petrol head but something similar) with CLU private number plate this afternoon on way to Cott from Willerby. I wondered then if it was Clucas?
I think it said bowels, obviously it was carrying a lump of ****. Previous reg on that vehicle was poo guy
