Liverpool will be with out Raul Meireles after he picked up an injury against Exeter on Wednesday.

Monday 29th August 2011: Martin Skrtel believes Liverpool now have a squad strong enough to compete at the top end of the Premier League, and that they now have a squad where any player is capable of playing any game. "For this season we signed a few new players and we have a really strong squad now," the Slovakian told Liverpoolfc.tv. "It doesn't matter who is playing now. We have maybe 22 players and everyone can play in a game. That's very good and we can compare to the best teams in the Premier League. "I can say we are playing in one of the best periods since I came to the club. "We had a target at the start of the season. Wednesday 31st August 2011: Liverpool last night completed the signing of giant Uruguay defender Sebastian Coates from Nacional. 20 year old Coates will wear the number 16 shirt. He is Dalglish's 6th signing of the summer. - He claims Luis Suarez played a key part in his decision. Friday 2nd September 2011: Today is the 98th birthday of the late, great Bill Shankly - Jordan Henderson scored as he captained the England under 21s to a 6-0 victory over Azerbaijan in a Euro qualifier last night (Henderson's second goal this week). John Flanagan impressed on his under 21s debut as he played 90 minutes. Jonjo Shelvey also looked sharp after he came on as a 79th minute substitute. Andre Wisdom was an unused substitute. - Steve Clarke feels Sebastian Coates is already ready to be called on for his LFC debut. The first-team coach told Liverpoolfc.tv: "He's a talented youngster and gives us different options at the back. "We look to sign young players that can improve and we looked at his performances throughout the Copa America when he was named Young Player of the Tournament. Saturday 3rd September 2011: Steve Gerrard is nearing a return to football and has set a target of September 18th in the game against Tottenham. Gerrard says he feels fitter than ever. He said on Liverpool's official website: "I feel really good and I'm back kicking balls again - it's all positive. I should be back in full training on Thursday or Friday." Gerrard added: "I won't be involved against Stoke next Saturday but my plan is to hopefully be involved in the game against Tottenham. It will be Kenny's decision when I come back in. "At the moment it's all good and I'm itching to get back. In fact it's worse than itching, my stomach is turning. "It's been a tough five months for me since I had the surgery. It's been up and down emotionally and I've missed playing so much. "I've had a good rest, I'm fired up and I'm raring to go again. Sunday 4th September 2011: Alan Hansen has heaped praise on Liverpool's new signings and say they have played a big part in Liverpool's impressive start to the season. Hansen told this week's LFC Magazine: "Against Bolton it was wave after wave of attack and what helps this is the passing ability of all the players. The football was tight and quick and all of the new signings have contributed towards this improvement. "Charlie Adam is the obvious playmaker in midfield, but all of the other new boys can pass too. "Stewart Downing has surprised me. I knew he was a good winger but I didn't realise how comfortable he was in possession. He makes the game look easy and that is the mark of a top player.' - Jamie Carragher says the players are very excited at the speed that Liverpool are improving.

Tuesday 6th September 2011: LFC legend and fn favourite Robbie Fowler has signed for Thailand Pemier League side Muang Thong United. "I just love playing," says Fowler, 36, sitting barefoot in his yellow training kit at the back of the main stand of the Yamaha Stadium on the outskirts of Bangkok. "I've always loved the game, regardless of where I've been. And it's the same here in Thailand - I thought: Why not give it a shot? The kids will enjoy it when they come over here, and I certainly will." "I'm seeing new things in my life other than football, which I might never have seen." - Fabio Capello has again critisized Andy Carroll, saying he needs to drink less and change his life style if he wants to reach his full potential. The Liverpool striker was pictured in the summer partying on holiday in Barbados and Capello added: "I don't know anything about his lifestyle. It is a private problem that I never spoke about. "But if he wants to be a good player and a good sportsman, he needs to drink less than the others." Suarez and Coates both came through the Nacional youth academy, as well as many other quality players. Thursday 8th September 2011: Kenny Dalglish has revealed he has no fresh injury worries ahead of Liverpool's trip to Stoke City this weekend as he confirmed Steven Gerrard continues to make good progress in his recovery. - Liverpool's youngsters cruised to a 4-0 victory over Norwegian outfit Molde in their second match of the NextGen Series last night. - Chelsea new-boy Raul Meireles insists he never wanted to leave Liverpool but says the chance to work with Andre Villas-Boas was too good to turn down. "I knew that I didn't want to leave Liverpool," he told chelseafc.co.uk. "[But] when I knew that Chelsea and Andre wanted me, it convinced me. It is only because he wanted me."
