Saturday 20th August 2011:

Today Liverpool will play a shaken Arsenal side at the Emirates Stadium for their second game of the 2011-12 Premier League season.

Liverpool have failed to win there in 6 attempts. But with Arsenals current problems involving player exits, a manager in trouble, Injuries, suspensions, an FA charge and fan unrest, Liverpool have got a better chance than ever. But Liverpool can not underestimate the London club, who still have the players left to put up a good fight.

    -

Glen Johnson may return but Steven Gerrard is still out with a groin injury.

    -

Jose Enrique believes Liverpool can make a real statement of intent for their top-four ambitions when they travel to Arsenal.

"I don't see any reason why we can't get the victory at the Emirates," said Enrique.

"Arsenal only drew their first game against Newcastle and we are looking to beat everyone in every game we play, but we need to play like we did in the first half against Sunderland to get the three points.

"We have an amazing team with some great players, so if we can keep everyone fit and steer clear of injuries then I think we can have a very good season."

(Dirk Kuyt said some thing pretty much the same)

    Kick off - 12:45

The Reds team in full is: Reina, Kelly, Enrique, Agger, Carragher, Lucas, Adam, Henderson, Downing, Carroll, Kuyt. Subs: Doni, Flanagan, Skrtel, Meireles, Spearing, Suarez, Maxi.

No Suarez starting. When I read kuyt was in I assumed Henderson was out.

    Sunday 21st August 2011:

Jose Enrique is relishing his partnership down the left flank with Stewart Downing and is confident the pair can provide the likes of Andy Carroll with the ammunition to strike fear into Barclays Premier League defenders.

"Stewart is a very good player who is very quick and good with both feet," Enrique told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"I always felt he was a very good player when I played against him for Newcastle and I'm hoping we can play well together for Liverpool.

"I am hoping we can provide some good service for Andy who is a great English centre forward. In the air he is the best I have ever seen and is almost unplayable.

"If Andy is 100 per cent fit and on top of his game then he will be a very important player for us."

    -

Kenny Dalglish believes the 2-0 victory over Arsenal proves how much better his squad is this season.

"We were really pleased with Andy Carroll's work, and Dirk Kuyt's, but when you've got two players of that quality on the bench, it would be wrong not to at least have a go with them.

"I think we deserved a goal. That's why I say the squad is better than last year. This is a great example of how strong the squad is."

Explaining his decision to include Kuyt at the expense of Suarez, Dalglish added: "Last week (v Sunderland) maybe I was being a wee bit romantic with Luis. It was unfair on him, he was coming back and was on such a high and looked sharp in training. I thought I'd give him a game.

"Maybe last week it was the wrong decision from me. He still scored the goal, still played well but he just never had the energy he normally has. Maybe we just brought him back a wee bit too soon.

"We've got to manage Luis's circumstances the same as we have everybody else's. There were another four or five lads there who we had for the first time. Raul Meireles has had a difficult pre-season with injuries so we've got to look after him as well as Luis."

(So that's why Henderson's starting over Raul)

    -

On whether he would conduct any more business before the end of the transfer window, Dalglish said: "I honestly don't know. If I said yes I could be telling a porky.

"I think it's inevitable that movement goes on in football. If someone taps on your door for whatever reason... But if everybody stays here I don't have any problems."

(So he's happy for Poulson to stay? Brad Jones?)

As manager he doesn't have the luxury of slagging off players he has to work with because we can't shift them.

    Monday 22nd August 2011:

Liverpool FC this afternoon confirmed that Sotirios Kyrgiakos had left the club and joined Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg.

The Greek defender made 49 appearances for the Reds, scoring three goals, after signing from AEK Athens in August 2009.

(I wish him the best of luck)

    -

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool's Emirates triumph has set the benchmark for their season.

"It was a big game for us and a big result," said Carragher.

"I was aware of how we started last season. When we nearly got a good result against Arsenal and then lost at Manchester City. Suddenly one point from six doesn't look too good.

"I'm not sure what message it sends out but it may make some people sit up and take notice and think this Liverpool team could maybe do things this season.

"The challenge for us now is to build on this result. This win has put us in a good position."

    -

Jose Enrique was Liverpool's star man during Saturday's 2-0 victory at Arsenal, according to fans who voted in our online poll.

Meanwhile, Stewart Downing scooped the Liverpoolfc.tv journalists' man of the match award.

    Wednesday 24th August 2011:

Liverpool kick of heir Carling (League) Cup campaign in the 2nd round against Exceter City at St James Park tonight (not the Newcastle one). Kick off at 7:45.

Kenny Dalglish admits our premature exit from last season's Carling Cup will be in his mind when selecting a side to face Exeter on Wednesday night.

He told Liverpoolfc.tv: "We had a bad result last year against Northampton at home, and we'll do our best to avoid another bad result. We want to do the very best we can in this competition and although there will be some changes in the personnel we put out, the attitude should be exactly the same as it was on Saturday at the Emirates.'

Liverpool progressed to the third round of the Carling Cup this evening with a 3 - 1 win away to Exeter at St James Park. Maxi, Suarez and Carroll gave Liverpool a three goal lead before a Exeter penalty, given away by Martin Skrtel, gifted them a constallation goal.

LFC team: Reina, Flanagan, Skrtel, Wilson, Robinson, Maxi, Spearing, Adam (Shelvey), Henderson, Meireles (Carroll), Suarez (Downing).

    Goals:
    LFC: Suarez 23, Maxi 55, Carroll 58

Liverpool FC have reached an agreement for Alberto Aquilani to join AC Milan on a season long loan. The deal includes an option to make the move a permanent one next summer.

Director of Football Damien Comolli said: "I want to pay tribute to the way Alberto has conducted himself during these discussions.

"Throughout the entire process, his only desire has been to play football and he has put this ahead of any other considerations and at personal cost to himself. We wish him well for the season ahead."

    Friday 26th August 2011:

Raul Meireles will be out for one to two weeks with a collar bone injury he sustained during Wednesday nights game against Exeter.

Kenny Dalglish told Liverpoolfc.tv: "It's his collar bone that is damaged, but it's only a week or two. We've been quite fortunate with that. A week or two will be the maximum."

    -

Aquilani has completed his loan move to AC Milan.

A statement from AC Milan read: "AC Milan announces it has acquired Alberto Aquilani on loan with an option to buy the player's rights from Liverpool."

The former Roma playmaker said: "I am delighted to have arrived here. This is a leap in my career.

"I have come to Milan to do well. The clause of making at least 25 appearances? It's not a problem for me and I'm not thinking about it.

"I will do everything possible to earn the trust of the club."

Damien Comolli, Liverpool director of football, said: "I want to pay tribute to the way Alberto has conducted himself during these discussions.

"Throughout the entire process, his only desire has been to play football and he has put this ahead of any other considerations and at personal cost to himself. We wish him well for the season ahead."

The ''loan move'' don't quote me on this is part of a 3 year deal. If he plays 25 games, it triggers a buyout option, the fee involved is unknown as they vary from one source to another they range from €6.5 million to £14 million.

Yeah that's what I heard to. I reckon Milan are being cautious due to his injury record.
