I voted to remain for selfish reasons but as the months went by i started to understand why leave won and now i am an avid leaver.......The EU is not all it is cracked up to be and being a member is sending the UK backwards as we give Brussels every week £56m which is in a 4 or 5 week in a month is £224m or £280m.......I thought hang on all that money every single month going to Brussels could solve and eradicate our problems in a year and instead of falling down the table as one of the richest nations (7th now and falling) we could have been 3rd. We cant support any of our services and we have to implicate Cutbacks on all, We have growing Poverty that Food banks are the fastest growing businesses where even some working people even has to use and that is wrong. So being in the EU is costing the UK dearly and it must stop or we will continue to slide........The Billions we have donated to Brussels would be better spent here repairing the damage definitely caused by the EU.......We can work with the EU but outside of the club and now the French are talking about Leaving for the exact same reasons as us, And i bet some of the other EU countries will follow suit......It is just not worth giving Brussels all them billions at the expense of letting the people in the UK paying the price with austericy..

We will leave most definitely and we will leave with a no Deal which in my view is the worst option......The socialist leave option is by far the best way but sadly Mrs May is incharge and will run the clock down if she has to just to get her way.......Im glad we are leaving but i wish it was another way....

Watched the whole thing. He'd have a point, except that we agree with 98% of EU laws, and for those 2% that we disagreed with, we helped write them and they're also pretty damn good laws. We also have a veto on crucial issues such as Turkey joining - we can stop that happening. We are not completely at the whim of the EU.

If your whole point is to do with 'democracy', do you also support pulling out of NATO, the UN and the Paris Climate Accord? Because they all contain laws/rules from foreign bodies.

Benn there appears to be in favour of 'modernising the EU'. I can completely support that. But in general all this proves is that referenda are absolutely useless.

On a sidenote, I'd not seen much of Tony Benn, but he speaks fantastically. Even if I disagree, I wish our politicians were more like that today.

You are going off on a tangent.

Tony Benn was opposed to the EU and wanted a referendum for the people of this Country to make their own decision.

really, so it is from 2017? not 2018 or 2016 and I am perfectly aware 0f what context you are trying back up, but that is a wheel which shows a perfectly normal % of what money is spent on [ or could be a forcast chart ] so it does show more about me, than yourself, the need to be accurate /consistent / informative .
like most such charts, they vary from year to year so a comparison over time is usually informative, and more constructive.

on your new offering it is .7%, not including what we get back! on the wheel it says .37% !

And history tells us that referenda can be very dangerous.

Referenda do not necessarily need to be listened to. Though in this instance it would cause many problems not to.

No JGF. .7% is total spend. It will be closer to .37% with rebate.

Either way surely you must agree that in the grand scheme of things it’s not a lot of money. If we needed to make savings we’d be better off doing it elsewhere.

Quite aware of that, are the 2 examples of the same year? each year our, as does all euro countries payments vary! we also stumped up, well the banks [ euro etc] did extra loans, to bail out Greece, Italy Spain ...also paid out extra money to other third grade economy Euro Countries … we wont be doing that in the future

PS For those wondering why we have to pay £x m over x years to the EU … well, and has been said before by a few "it is our existing commitments" that we have to honour ..
bit like having a mortgage, you have a lender on special rates, but decide to leave them so they say , fair enough but before you do "you need to pay us that part of the agreement contracted to, and of course the outstanding balance"

No they're not, and you're quite right it will vary. But regardless, it's going to be a relatively insignificant percentage each year. I can dig out figures if I absolutely need to but it would just be nitpicking, we all know it's going to be around or below 1% of total spend at most.

I'm pretty sure we all know this mate.
 
I must admit I find it interesting that Brexiteers in particular are particularly hostile to the idea of a second referendum (admittedly some remainers too).
In fact, the 2016 referendum was the THIRD referendum on this subject, so a ‘second’ would really be a fourth to be exact.
For Brexit to be overturned in another referendum there would have to be a significant swing of Brexit voters to switch sides and vote Remain - I can’t see that happening - in fact if there is another referendum it may not even include Remain as an option - but if it does - and enough former supporters of Brexit vote the other way then is that not also the ‘will of the people’?
I’m not sure I want another referendum to be honest, but I’m not hostile to the idea either and if ther is one I will vote in it, but I think enough damage has been done - and people rightly ask ‘when do you stop?’ - whichever side won an additional vote then there would be another referendum a few years down the road.
This will NEVER go away I fear.
 
Airbus CEO today asking Britain to reconsider.

14,000 jobs at Airbus UK. 100,000 jobs reliant on Airbus.

Add to that the fact that car manufacturers will almost certainly up and go, considering the insane tariffs on car parts. That's another 186,000 jobs that would be gone over the coming years with an additional 700,000 jobs reliant on that industry.

This is entirely justified fear. Honestly I don't think it 100% will, but if everything went wrong, this would irreparably cripple our country.
