These concerns were based on the fact that prime minister Cameron was supporting Turkey's application to join the EU. Erdogan's rise to office put paid to that.

Those bastards never let us have our way. This is a classic case of us being ruled from Brussels.

You are right, that was what they said if they got full membership but they only have customs Union and not freedom of movement.

We usually did get outvoted. In this case, for the best in hindsight

Apart from the 95% of occasions we got what we wanted and the 3% we abstained, yes.

Britain was outvoted more than any other EU member country. ITV confirmed this before the referendum. If you Google the question, you'll see this under Fact Checks

It depends what time period you’re talking but being outvoted the most isn’t the same as being outvoted most of the time which has never been the case.

True, I'll settle for the UK being outvoted more than any other EU member...and by the way, we were the second largest financial contributor

    #26673
  14. Turkey was never going to join the EU. A unanimous vote is needed and there's more chance of Abu Hamza being Tommy Robinson's best man.

Presumably Cameron thought Turkey had a chance or he would not have supported their application

It was policy making stuff from memory. Does it matter?

For me, the relevance is simply that on day to day EU business, we were out on a limb more than any of the others

Yeah, but about what? Important stuff that has affected our lives, or petty stuff that doesn't really matter that much? The thing is, I have no idea because I don't have the burning resentment, but I'm sure that you or Ellers or Stainesy, or that other fella that pops up now and then must be able tell me, because that's why you voted Leave isn't it?
