So if you go out of the FA Cup in the third round and don’t win the PL or CL....what kind of a season have you had? Better or worse than the team that won the FA Cup, assuming it’s not City?
We are having a fantastic season, who knows it might even include a long run in the FA cup

Will you lads be paying any attention to this game given it’s only the FA Cup?

of course.

I really want a cup run but I think it'll be difficult.

we will know when we see klopps team how seriously he takes it.

Oh and i agree cup finals are great days.

Anyone dissing cups has never been to a final IMO

easy answer.

not great, it might have been a good ride and entertaining but in the end its devoid of a climax. ;)

seriously though, first setting aside FA cup

a) lets assume for a moment the top 4 clubs are as follows: LFC, City, Spurs, Utd/chelsea. no order but those are the 4.

b) now assume a top 4 club wins league cup. lets say spurs.

If spurs won league cup and finished 3rd AND we finish 2nd with no trophy then IMO (and its just mine) then spurs had the better year....

2nd is just first of the losers after all.

now FA cup

assume a top 4 side wins it (not us)

Then if we finish 2nd and say cheslea win FA cup and get 4th.... then clearly Chelsea have had better season

Now: say Chelsea finish 5th and win FA cup... is that better than 2nd? Now we get to the real issue...... 5th is unacceptable league position for a top 6 side (perverse innit) so no cup can make that up.... but is a cup better than 2nd?

Chelsea could also win the EL

But if you aren't in the CL next season you've definitely had a bad previous season

for a side with top ambitions yes for sure.

for me we have not been successful as a club this decade and we are now in 2019 so to say winning a cup is irrelevant is amazing.

in 1990s.

might claim last league. barely.

won fa cup in 1992
won league cup in 1996 wasn't it?

so.... this decade has been worse.. we need to get that message on-board.

lfc needs to win things... not be also rans

Having been in and out of the CL in recent seasons I think there is too much emphasis put on the importance of qualifying for it every season at the expense of winning other trophies. Finishing 4th to qualify for a competition you are very unlikely to win is just a bit meh. I'd rather go to a cup final with mini-Stan.

unfortunately that's become true. As a top 6 team, a CL place is the goal. A club could win the EL and FA Cups and yet could be viewed as unsuccessful. Whereas another could come 4th and win nothing and yet say that was a great successful season. Like Pochetino has today said to the media.

That's because Man Utd are still willing and able to pay big wages to attract players regardless of not qualifying. Think of a club like Spurs. If you haven't got CL what chance do you have of attracting or keeping any decent players?

TBF I think getting top 4 these days is a [HASHTAG]#legit[/HASHTAG] challenge, far harder than some cup runs. Man City are playing a two-legged semi against Burton FFS.

We just won 9 games in a row culminating in a 5-1 win against Arsenal

Fulham, Watford, Everton, Burnley, Bournemouth, Man Utd, Wolves, Newcastle, Arsenal

When was the last cup run anywhere near as impressive as that?

Cups are massively based on luck (which is both a good and bad thing)
