The King Of Cheeses. Fortunately my wife can't stand it so don't have to share.

Regarding gin, Chazz. Was ill pre Xmas and couldn't get out. Told the wife to pick a bottle of gin up at Aldi. She got a bottle of their Oliver Cromwell London Dry. Read later it had won awards in blind tasting beating a lot of more expensive ones. Only £15 for a litre. Have to say makes a fine long g and t. Better than many more expensive ones I have tried. Will be getting some again.

Going Xmas shopping with the Missus, as it's her last weekend off before The Big Day, then going to see Bohemian Rhapsody.

I gave up smoking on Monday and because alcohol always makes me smoke more, I haven't had drink since then either.

I feel like that flight control fella in Airplane...

"Maybe I picked the wrong day to give up..."

Stick with it Kemps, it gets easier.

    Then a bit easier.

    Then a bit easier.

    Then a bit easier.

Then the cravings gone and you look at a tab and go meh.

I've saved tens of thousands of pounds over the last 10 years.

Spent most of it on booze mind, but that's not the point.

Keep at it, as Ernie says it really does get easier. You'll like yourself for it aswell. Liking yourself is good.

Each has their own way but I stopped January 2002 after smoking 50 a day for years. Had tried all sorts before, patches, sprays, acupuncture but kept cracking, once going 11 months before starting again. But as I set off to work on 5th January after Christmas shut down said to my wife that is my last cig and have never touched another one. I loved a smoke with a drink so deliberately went out first weekend for some beers thinking if I can get through this it will be OK. I was but the downside, at least as far as the wife was concerned, was I found I could drink even more than I had before (which was plenty) and all the extra money meant I could do it more often. Still went in smoking part of canteen at work as others smoking didn't bother me. But the wife, who is better than I deserve, never smoked in the house in front of me again. She finally stopped last year. Strange, she only smoked a quarter of what I did but found it far harder to stop.
Keep up with it, Kemps. I have developed health problems which would have probably meant I wouldn't be here now if I hadn't quit and would certainly have had to if I hadn't done already.
Looking at it now it is funny as if someone suggested doing something which costs as much as smoking 50 cigs a day I would say I can't afford that.

Did the same thing about 7/8 years ago and can confirm what you say Ernie, although I have managed not to spend what I saved completely on booze though.
Stick with it Kemps, you WILL feel a lot better in time.

I really believe I'm going to do this. The money saved is quite scary, especially as Mz Kemps (she hasn't smoked for years), has given up drinking a bottle of Pinot Grigio every night (I paid for that as well), so Iv'e worked out I'll save eye popping circa £500 a month.

All that and I'll be healthier and not stink of smoke. Chavs won't call me a **** when I refuse them a cig (That can happen every fifty yards when I'm out waking with a cig in my gob). I don't have to go stand outside in the cold and rain/snow to smoke. My 10 year old nephew will stop nagging at me to stop (he's been really relentless bless him, in fact, I dedicate my stopping to that beautiful boy). There's so many reasons to give them up.

£500 a month! Hmm... What the hell will I do with it?

Apparently, Viv Stanshall of the Bonzos said, "If I had all the money I've spent on drink, I'd spend it on drink."
