true, they are well paid relative to you or me especially in the IPL but your point on context is a valid one.

a) cricket is no 1 sport in certain asian and former british colonies. Football is global

b) While there's over a billion people who might like cricket most have not the money to pay masses for it... india is an interesting case in this contect. Virat Kholi is reputed to be the highest paid at about 3million a year total. messi would be the equivilant getting 84mil in salary and mover 110 total with endorsements added.

c) the market where its sold is critical. messi doesn't just earn more cos he is more entertaining to his fans. he has more and richer fans.

Let me put it this way.

Baseball for me is as dull as cricket (its actually more dull) its highest paid player is on 34mil... is that player better than kholi? no. just in the USA

How about NBA. I don't really like basketball all that much, its ok but how and ever... same 37million or something for Curry.

NFL. only us sport but the real big one.. 75 mil...

Football is global. Football has many markets and a really expensive appetite. If football was the no 2 or no 1 sport in the US not the no 4 (probably is no 4 over hockey) then messi would double his money.

So...... if football more entertaining than cricket... probably for the vast majority.

Why do you comment on cricket if you think it's dull?

On the 1 nil vs 4 or 5 nil debate would guys be happy with a 1 nil but played quick attacking football like last year? I think that's the most important thing from this game is to see a performance closer to last years then the dire sideways backwards passing we have seen a lot this season.

Yes <ok>

Correct. It's not about the scoreline, it's about approach and style. But nor you you play free flowing and exciting football to get a 1-0 victory. It happens of course, but it's not planned.

no result is plenned... unless of course you are utd (according to some on here)

Both teams have a say. You do your best.

IMO all you are saying is this is an entertainment industry and providing a show is their job not to grind a dull result out.

Now.... Its all building towards the end of season and ultimate result so like TV, a slow episode ;) might be required to fill in from time to time and drama every week is wearing just as knowing the result ahead of time (4-0 city) is boring.

So if you view football as a pure entertainment series, or as a one of spectacle or as a road to the real big day you will consider a game differently.

If i watch juve v man utd as a "neutral" on a one of basis, I might not see either team for 2 months again so I might consider that a crap game. It depends on what actually happened. I didn't see it but heard juve were wasteful and utd were clinging on and got 2 late goals. for some the drama might have made it great.

If i watch LFC v red star as a one off I'm sure it was bloody awful to watch

If I watch city on a one off winning 6-0 or 6-1 last weekend. I might think on the one off it was amazing.

However if i'm a city fan I would probably think result is foregone conclusion in games by now. I might only be up for the utd game this weeked as that result might be in doubt and all those big result might be meaningless.

"Let me put it this way.

Above is a direct quote from your post on page 6 <grr>

Completely agree with you pulling him up for that. Baseball is much more exciting than cricket, and I find baseball dull too

But it isn't just about the 3 points. Surely that is our minimum expectation given the current gap between the clubs?
We have struggled so far to put together a dominant performance and we need to fix that. A good win gives us confidence and shows everyone else that we are a serious contender.
I inadvertently started this debate by stating that we need an emphatic victory - I don't mean it has to be 6-0, just that we need to play good football, control the game and win by a comfortable margin, not be hanging on to a slender lead by the end and waiting anxiously for the whistle.
I stand by that.

To be honest, Bindiana has put it the way i wanted, im not bothered about the score (as long as we win), its the performance that matters, we beat west ham 4 nil, but where not great and that has led onto more and more middling showings. Id rather we started looking the real deal, really controlling the game and come away with a one nil, than carry on below par but smash 6 past a ****e team.

If Bindiana had mentioned the word performance 3 pages ago, i would have new what i was looking for, so im blaming him. Ha Ha

No but I have played cricket for a season. I've no intention of doing. I don't even know how baseball works <laugh>
