a lot of people like cricket but its changed its format to be more "attractive"

Football has changed its format also. And frankly if the yanks get their way will change to have ads in the middle of games rather than shots of the crowd and players gobbing.

Can't remember channel but few years ago f1 had ruddy ad breaks during a live race ffs lol.

Of course there would have been or why call yourself a supporter?

You (well, maybe not you) wouldn't be a supporter because it was too boring to get your interest. Hence the demand not being there.

Talking in context mate. Don't see too many cricketers getting paid £300k pw.

Yes but you also get the interest from wining things.look at Chelsea. Our history is much much better than theirs but they have appeal lately and better than us as been successful not entertaining.

Can we just agree to disagree or rhc will go on one and call me an argumentative **** <laugh>

Plastics.
Anyone who wasn't a fan before their success (assuming they're old enough), is a fan of success - not of the club.

Glory fans that don't really care too much, they just like football because it's popular amongst modern day society.

PS...I am a argumentative **** :)

true, they are well paid relative to you or me especially in the IPL but your point on context is a valid one.

a) cricket is no 1 sport in certain asian and former british colonies. Football is global

b) While there's over a billion people who might like cricket most have not the money to pay masses for it... india is an interesting case in this contect. Virat Kholi is reputed to be the highest paid at about 3million a year total. messi would be the equivilant getting 84mil in salary and mover 110 total with endorsements added.

c) the market where its sold is critical. messi doesn't just earn more cos he is more entertaining to his fans. he has more and richer fans.

Let me put it this way.

Baseball for me is as dull as cricket (its actually more dull) its highest paid player is on 34mil... is that player better than kholi? no. just in the USA

How about NBA. I don't really like basketball all that much, its ok but how and ever... same 37million or something for Curry.

NFL. only us sport but the real big one.. 75 mil...

Football is global. Football has many markets and a really expensive appetite. If football was the no 2 or no 1 sport in the US not the no 4 (probably is no 4 over hockey) then messi would double his money.

So...... if football more entertaining than cricket... probably for the vast majority.

On the 1 nil vs 4 or 5 nil debate would guys be happy with a 1 nil but played quick attacking football like last year? I think that's the most important thing from this game is to see a performance closer to last years then the dire sideways backwards passing we have seen a lot this season.

in the end football is two teams trying to win so if a good game is played, and the other team made it close and it was a hard fought game of quality then 1-0 is fine.

A dour, grinding 1-0 is soon forgotten but its not exactly riveting viewing either.

I think it 's a mind set thing when you batter someone as opposed to just getting over the line with a 1-0 win over a lowly placed team.Someone facing Us when were scoring lots of goals against teams will be psychologically effected ,but if they see us only managing 1 goal against the likes of their peers they're going to fancy their chances.

I'm not against giving the opposition a good beating, but more that we must give them a beating in order to move forward.

3 points first, let's see how many we score second.

What we saw last year is teams knowing we would go all out attack, but if they sit deep, we will cough up a few chances.

This year opposition know we can score, but the oppotunity to counter are servely limited.

I'd rather win 5 out of 5 one nil, than 4 out 5 5 nil, with a draw or loss

Yes, the word I've been looking for amongst the drivel I've been spouting, a good performance would be a major step forward. Just to look cohesive as a team would be a start.

But it isn't just about the 3 points. Surely that is our minimum expectation given the current gap between the clubs?
We have struggled so far to put together a dominant performance and we need to fix that. A good win gives us confidence and shows everyone else that we are a serious contender.
I inadvertently started this debate by stating that we need an emphatic victory - I don't mean it has to be 6-0, just that we need to play good football, control the game and win by a comfortable margin, not be hanging on to a slender lead by the end and waiting anxiously for the whistle.
I stand by that.

Yeah I would take a straight forward 2 nil with a good performance. We beat West Ham 4 nil first game of season but wouldn't say it was a good performance it was more how poor West Ham were.
