Couldn't give a ****, I'd rather be entertained all season then for a short period at the end

I agree, watching us at the minute is torture, but i also dont equate scoring 4 goals a match as entertaining. I watch a fair bit of football, not just liverpool, but i dont watch city, watching them put 5 past a team that has curled up on the floor and died before a ball was kicked is a bit ****, but a hard fought 1-1 can be excellent to watch.

Scoring a **** load of goals is not the only way football can be entertaining, if thats what your looking for, you might as well switch to basketball.

Goals help but it's the way of playing I was talking about. The arsenal game was exciting despite us being poor though

I didn't enjoy the arsenal game, similar to red star, quality was shocking all over the pitch. It was a difficult game to watch.

Only comment on the arsenal game, but I was going ffs every 2 mins lol.

Same here, the sloppy passing and aimless longballs did my head in. I will never understand how a professional footballer can misplace a pass over the space of a couple of yards.
I can never understand how they can deliver so many terrible corners.

Quality on our part wasn't great but it was a close game that either team could have won so exciting

I do not understand how they can hit the first man on such a regular basis, not just us, but it's a recurring theme. It's like they must have a competition of who's got the weakest kick, right lad your on corners from now.

It's because they no longer just put the ball in the danger zone.

Defences are set-up to deal with corners so it needs to be a extremely good delivery to cause problems. Pace and whip is harder to defend. Usually means of its not right then it's terrible.

If you are going to **** it up, you're better off going low than high. Sure the first man is probably going to get it but there is a chance he will slice or miss it in which case anything can happen. Go high and it just floats over everyone and goes out for a throw.

I'm fairly sure defences have always been set up to defend corners, it's part of the defence.

I don't believe for a second the tactic is smack it at the first defender, you never know he might miss it and cause a scramble.

I didn't say defences weren't set up to defend them before, I said they are set-up much better nowadays. Teams spend a lot more time on tactics rather than just running around a field and playing five-a-side.

Nor did I say they smack it at the first man. I said they're better off hitting the first man than it sailing over the top. The aim woll always be too hit the danger area BUT with pace and whip which makes it harder to hit the target area.

you are just plain...... right.

If a ball comes in at a high angle, be it a long throw, corner or free it is virtually impossible to do anything with. A high floaty ball if just favouring the defender. You cannot attack it and get over it to head down on target.

I would say though that some players are not just "not quite getting it right" but are just hapless.

I can remember opponents of ours who would deliver one, we would clear for another corner and then the next one in is perfect (like as if they got a practice kick first time).

with our chumps... and its been manger after manager btw... they are just in consistent and don't seem to approach the ball with intent of really striking well.

One factor for me is that anfield is actually a tighter pitch than a lot of pitches and i just do wonder sometimes if we actually scientifically look at it.

word was back in the day southampton's new training ground was set up with pitches of the right dimensions for opponents grounds and they would set up the corners to exactly mirror the available space to strike the ball in.

If i were a scientific coach (which i am not) I'd be out with a tape measuring every ground in the 4 corners and taking the info back to the triaing ground.

But then If i were a scientific coach i'd be changing our available space at home every so often and having our training pitch mirror it so we would be great and opponents couldn't

How many times has the league been won on goal difference, picking up 3 points is crucial, scoring alot of goals in the process is a nice addition.
I think it 's a mind set thing when you batter someone as opposed to just getting over the line with a 1-0 win over a lowly placed team.Someone facing Us when were scoring lots of goals against teams will be psychologically effected ,but if they see us only managing 1 goal against the likes of their peers they're going to fancy their chances.

sorry for being an argumentative sod <laugh>

but it does work the other way too, utd have for years won titles with knowing what is required to win games, and it also breeds confidence in the defence and midfield also, just saying.

No disrespect to anyone, but I can't even see why this is a debate, tbh. It seems self evident to me that an emphatic win is better in so many ways than a narrowly carved out victory.
Of course you have to make do with the latter occasionally, but against a team struggling at the bottom, a team with title aspirations shouldn't even be considering it.
