good point.

Its all a jigsaw. Take one or two pieces out and it falls a apart a bit.

Its getting more and more difficult to put it back together now.

We are still in an ok position but we need to see massive improvement in mentality and shape in midfield.

Be that henderson, fabinho.. whoever.

We could put any of our players this weekend and we should win the three points comfortably. I'm with astro: Fulham was the match to rotate not RSB away. Most teams are beat before they get on the Anfield pitch and Fulham at the very bottom of the table will be no different.

All we have to avoid is complacency.

Isn't that what astro was saying - or have I misunderstood?
Yes.

He is saying it's all doom and gloom because he has left.

All I'm saying is yes he made a difference in games but no more than others have.

Widji has made a difference in games when attack has failed doesnt mean he would be missed as well, same as Henderson has a few times.

Hopefully that lesson was learned the hard way last night <ok>

He said this:
Coutinho is irrelevant. We had plenty of performances like yesterday with him in the team. And we played our best football after he left.

Maybe I'm losing it, but it appears to me that you're both saying roughly the same thing.

Without coutinho is vital point.

my views:

a) mane is far too deep in defensive shape. The front 3 are too far apart and are unable to link up well.

b) the midfield are not demanding and taking the ball from defenders. They are not "available" for a short pass to retain possession. Any old press will do v liverpool. It doesn't even need to be that good as you can force us to kick it long at salah in the air and you can stand a tall man near him and mop up.

c) the midfield don't play on half turn. even when available for a pass 90% goes back.

d) I will predict exactly what you will see in this 4231 of yours. you will see 4 forwards and 2 cms. You will see the midfield being dragged about unable to plug the gaps and you WILL see us being out fought and not able to retain possession. In short it'd be a disaster.

e) in case you've missed this: Cheslea 433. City 433. Liverpool 433. games lost in prem 33 games played jointly looses 0. 4231 is yesterdays news.

f) not only does 433 suit some midfielders it suits firmino.

g) we bought keita and fabinho. It seems fabinho hasn't a clue how to play in a 3 even after 5 months of training. So klopps changed systems to suit having him in.

h) finally milner has played bascially as a winger in the start of the red star game and all of the arsenal game leaving the other two to cover 80% of the pitch and we got over run by arsenal and red star had the run of the pitch with windy. it was only at 0-2 down that he was moved central and guess what we had more of the ball. This tactic has been nothing short of disasterous for us.

The sooner we get keita, windy and milner as the midfield 3 the better. at least with windy deep and the other two tucked in we can control more of the play.

I would also bring mane and salah narrower and closer to firmino and tell the full backs to provide all the width. in other words choke the centre of the pitch.

I think they're far too close together <laugh>

What klopp does next and what the team does next will decide our season.

Last year after losing 4-1 to spurs we reacted big time.

Certain people need to man up.

Certain people need to stop indulging themselves

Certain manager needs to go back to basics of formation and drive the team narrow down the middle with over lapping full backs again. We need to close up the gaps between players both vertically but also in terms of space in the lines themselves.

Last weekend was disgraceful how the midfield was shaped and how they left TAA totally exposed time and again. Why milner was playing LW i don't know.

To be title contenders, which is what saint is referring to, goal difference is crucial. City are a long way ahead. If you're happy with just top 4, then yeah, any old 3 points will do.

How many times has the league been won on goal difference, picking up 3 points is crucial, scoring alot of goals in the process is a nice addition.
