I think at this this point, Hughes pretty much has to go.

It’s not all his fault, and I would not expect any sort of immediate turnaround from a replacement. But I think we are going down, and there just aren’t many strings you can pull even in desperation.

And I certainly don’t think Hughes has made himself irreplaceable. Whoever we get might not be better,but I have reasonable faith we can find someone about as good. Or even if the new manager is worse, does it really matter if we are going down with Hughes anyway?

I don't think he will. For the exact same reason we stuck with Pellegrino for so long. The board will think we won't go down until it is staring them straight in the face. This year I am inclined to agree with them, we are absolutely terrible but so are 5 other teams and I am pretty confident we will finish above 3 of them, Hughes or no Hughes
 
Who would we replace him with though? Who would be mad enough to want the job, and would he be able to make an average squad play any better?

Cue people suggesting that the ex-Monaco manager would come here...
