Not sure we have a first eleven at the moment, midfield being the contentious area. We will surely go as strong as possible v Arsenal.
The ball should have been dealt with before the cross. Once crossed, deflection or not, Lovren let his man get a run on him imo
Yep. he will only rest the players against mid table clubs like utd Expect as strong as possible against arsenal. **** knows what that means for our midfield though.
we will see. depends on which are fit too. it's not like I expect Moreno. I just reckon he might do something like.sturridge
I can’t see Sturridge unless we have injuries - he might come on later in the game. The biggest ? Is who is our best midfield? Milner will be fully fit again. Keita will be back, Shaq or Lallana or Keita will be interested. Fab or Hendo or Milner? Wijnaldum is probably safe! Back 4 should pick itself although I can see Klopp sticking Gomez on the right to deal with Aubameyang.
Sturridge started one recently... just feel klopp will be spreading the load now. I would agree only windy should be safe in midfield. I think you might be right on gomez too.
Lovren played his man offside which is why he was free but VVD played the ball therefore playing him on.
The ball deflected off VVD therefore he was still offside, same reason the Huddersfield player was offside when it got graded against Lallana
Doesn't (or shouldn't) matter if they were offside prior to the touch. Clearly interfering with play, hence VVD feeling he had to play the ball.
I think it comes down too interpretation. A defender can play the ball meaning the opposition can't be offside... think Gerrard / Henry A attacker is considered to be offside when interfering with play... Why did VVD play it? This incident had both of the above.
Was the attacker offside when ball was played? original ball yes. so.... is the rule the ball must reach the person for him to be offside? I recall one occasion where the ball was played in and the guy was 5 yards off and until the ball was touched the linesman didn't flag. so... I dunno. a ball skids off the defender so you can be 5 yards off and be fine? seems odd to me.
the relevant rule Offside offence A player in an offside position at the moment the ball is played or touched* by a team-mate is only penalised on becoming involved in active play by: interfering with play by playing or touching a ball passed or touched by a team-mate or interfering with an opponent by: preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball by clearly obstructing the opponent’s line of vision or challenging an opponent for the ball or clearly attempting to play a ball which is close when this action impacts on an opponent or making an obvious action which clearly impacts on the ability of an opponent to play the ball none of which apply therefore VVD by playing the ball played him onside. Now personally i think the rule is now just silly but hey i don't make them.
I'd say there is am argument for that one. As I said above, if the Cardiff attacker isn't there, VVD leaves the ball for Alisson to collect. If that's not effecting play them I've no idea what is. However, I'm partially happy we conceded. I was fed up of hearing about our home record and not having conceded since February.
Agreed. But Virgil had to go for that ball. Just bad luck all round. We could replay that scenario another 99 times and it wouldn't happen again. **** happens sometimes .
But we had this last season with Kane and the lovren mis-kick. Them s the rules. If Virgil doesn't go for that ball and it goes through and the offside is missed - the whole world and his wife will say 'why didn't Virgil play to the whistle?". And rightly so. I said after the spurs game that the rule is grossly unfair, and it is. But it is the rule.
so cut the cross out and make your clearance... or just rush up and hope its always offside when you leave guy unopposed as until ball reaches the guy he's not offside. the rule wording says offside when ball is played... Not only when he receives the ball
